He has Division I, Division II and Division III interest coming in right now, and says that going to a school with a good academic reputation will of importance to him.
“I’ve been talking to a few schools. I’ve been in contact all year with Eastern Michigan and Cornell. I’ve also talked a little bit to Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Hillsdale and a lot of D3s in the Michigan and Ohio area,” said Smith.
“In the last few weeks I’ve definitely talked to way more schools than I ever had. And I’m going to try and visit as many as I can before summer’s over. And hopefully by the end of the summer I’ll have a good solid base of schools that I can choose from.”
He added: “I really want to go to a school that does good academically, and where it can take my life somewhere other than basketball after college.”
Smith says he’s going to be working on his ball-handling ability this summer to pair with his existing shooting and slashing prowess.
“I’m usually known as a shooter and a slasher, and an athletic player. I’m probably needing to work on my ball-handling and my defense the most right now,” said Smith, who is playing grassroots ball with Common Bond once again this offseason.
“I’m more of a shooter with Common Bond, and I’m still a starter but there’s a lot of talent on the team,” he said. “We’ve been playing pretty well so far, it’s probably the best team we’ve had in a few years, so it’s been fun.”
