The versatile 6-foot-5 point-forward will be heading to an elite camp later this spring and is focused on getting that first offer be summer’s end.
“Austin Peay is showing the most interest in me right now; I’m going to their elite camp on June 5th. They saw me a lot last season, and they’re the only school that has shown real interest in me. I have seen some mail from Heidelberg University too,” said Jones, who also mentioned Wright State and Columbia have shown light interest.
“I’m hoping to get my first offer in July. I don’t care what level it’s at, I just want to get an offer and get on the board, and just take-off from there. I just want to play college basketball.”
Jones is a pass-first player, who cites his jumper as a strength. The McCreary Central junior-to-be defined his playing style to PHK.
“I’m a shooter, and I distribute more than anything pretty much. I like to play point guard so much, while everyone else is looking to score and get points, I’m looking to pass and dribble and just run the team. That’s one of my favorite things to do, is just run the team,” said Jones.
“I need to work on my aggressiveness. I think I can shoot just as good as anybody, but I think I’m too passive sometimes.”
After a strong start to his sophomore season with the Raiders, Jones says he fell off a bit later in the season. That’s something he’s looking to avoid next season.
“In the last two years I’ve played good at the start, but I would always fall off,” said Jones. “My junior season I just want to keep a steady pace all season. I just need to keep my focus, and last year my back kind of got beat up, but keeping my focus all season will be the main thing.”
In the meantime, this spring and summer Jones will play with a very talented group of guys on Team Vision’s 16U squad.
“They just need me to do it all; score, rebound, assist, defend, and I accept the challenge,” said Jones. “I just go out there and play my game.”
