After a strong freshman season with the Saints, and an opportunity to showcase himself this spring with one of the DMV’s best grassroots teams, Depollar has a bevy of college coaches hot on his trail.
“I’m still hearing from Penn State and Towson. And other schools that have been on me recently have been George Mason, Davidson, Rice, and I’ve gotten a couple letters from Stanford, and letters from Virginia and Notre Dame as well. I’ve been invited to Stanford, George Mason, and Richmond’s summer camps,” said Depollar, who says his recruitment will hinge on his focus.
“I just am going to keep the same mentality, and keep focused. There are a lot of distractions around me, so I just have to stay on my path, and make the most of it.”
A good-sized wing who is continually working to improve his guard skill-set, Depollar cites three things that he’s been working on most in the last six months.
“The main thing I’ve worked on is my ball-handling over the past year; and also my jump-shot, it was a little bit inconsistent, but I’ve been in the gym working on that every day. I’ve been watching a lot of film to get my IQ up, and those are the three things I’ve really been working on,” said Depollar, who assessed his play from last year’s freshman season.
“I thought it was a pretty good freshman year. They had me playing the three, and a little bit of the four. My biggest role was to try and be a scorer, but I also was there to help my teammates out, get rebounds, and just make the right plays and make my team better. I would say I did a pretty good job at that.”
This offseason Depollar is playing with the DC Blue Devils 15U squad, and says his goal for the summer months is just to get better.
“I just felt like they were the right choice for me. I’m kind of more of a shooter on that team, and I can be more of a guard on that team, so I can do different things than I can with my high school team,” said Depollar.
“I’m just looking to get better. I know everyone around me is getting these offers and I’m just focused on getting better. I know that eventually the offers will come, so I’m not really stressing on that.”
