The 6-foot-1 gunner boasts an astonishingly polished skill-set, particularly his ability to create for himself and score off the bounce. And despite being a bit undersized has become a kid that almost certainly will begin to warrant some high-major attention soon.
After his dominant performance at the state tournament in March, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, and North Dakota have all offered.
The Northern Iowa offer is particularly of interest because his dad, Kyle Green, is an assistant there.
It’s been rumored that some schools may hold-off on offering the supremely skilled point guard because of the Northern Iowa dynamic. Green seems fine with that.
“My dad told me that schools would probably think that (I’ll go to UNI), and that a lot of (low-major) schools like North Dakota won’t offer me because they’ll just think I’ll go to UNI, but that’s fine,” said Green. “I’m open to whatever right now.”
It seems to many that Green will eventually — probably sooner rather than later — pick up some high-major interest, and offers. He’s already had some high-major inquiries.
“Coach K.C. (Schmitt) – my AAU coach – said Gonzaga would probably be watching me a little this summer, and maybe Nebraska. And I’ve talked to Coach (Ben) Johnson at Minnesota too. And that’s about it.”
After averaging 17.8 points, and 3.6 rebounds per game for a Cedar Falls team that qualified for state, the sophomore is now helming a supremely talented Barnstormers 16U group.
“I’ve really been working on off-the-dribble shooting – that’s what I’ve always been good at, so I want to improve upon that and keep that a strength. I’ve been working on getting stronger, and trying to get to the hoop better and things like that,” said Green.
“Something that I think is one of my strengths is just being able to keep the defense off-guard with my ability to shoot it off the dribble well. And I really want to work at finishing around the rim better.”
This spring Green’s 16U Barnstormers have been one of the best teams in the country, and despite being shorthanded last weekend, made it to the Diamond Bracket Final Four of Prep Hoops’ Battle at the Lakes in Minneapolis..
Green was magnificent all tournament; turning heads from scouts, coaches, and fans.
“I feel like I’ve been playing pretty well,” said Green. “I need to work on finding my teammates when they get going, and being able to get the ball to them when they can score, and keeping them staying hot.”
We’ll be monitoring this stock-riser very closely over the next few months. And will not be surprised if some high-major offers come rolling in.
