Kern is not flashy like some of the other top points guards in the state, but that’s not to say he couldn’t be if he wanted to. He’s skilled enough to provide some razzle-dazzle, but instead elects to play smart, disciplined and fundamental hoops; making him a coach’s dream, and an opponents nightmare. He was absolutely instrumental in leading Attack Black 17U to a surprise title in the 17U field, and a no-brainer for this MVP selection.
First Team
2019 Thomas Faber, 6’2 PG, All Iowa Attack Red 15U (Dowling)
Skilled shooter with range, Faber is a dynamic point guard who is another in a stable of elite point guards in the Maroons system.
2018 Evan Flitz, 5’11 PG, Iowa Dynasty 16U (Iowa City West)
He’s got a high basketball IQ and outside ability with a blow-by that makes him lethal. It’ll be tough for him to see the floor next season behind two of the state’s best guards at Iowa City West (Mccaffery, Lane). But Flitz’s time will come.
2018 Hunter Strait, 6′ PG, Team Iowa 17U (Cedar Rapids Washington)
He is skyrocketing in the rankings, and now finds himself a top-5 in 2018. We would not be surprised at all if the supremely skilled point guard with silky handles picks up some D1 offers in the next year.
2018 Zaine Leedom, 6’4 SF, Iowa Intensity 16U (Grinnell)
He’s the full package; a long and tall wing with inside and outside ability. He threw down an emphatic two-hand slam in the 16U final to bury Iowa Dynasty.
2017 Jake Eilers, 6’4 G/F, Iowa Dynasty 17U (Cedar Rapids Prairie)
A long and tall wing who was absolutely sizzling from beyond the arc all weekend. He also was showcasing plus-vision and great passing. He’s certainly a stock-riser in 2017.
Second Team
2017 Joe Lathrum, 6’4 F, All Iowa Black 17U (Dowling)
2017 Austin Roetman, 6’7 All Iowa Attack Red (Pocahontas Area)
2019 Trey Hinote, 6′ PG, Iowa Cornsharks 15U (Panorama)
2019 Evan Gauger, 5’11 G, All Iowa Arrack Red 15U (Indianola)
2017 Garrett Sturtz, 6’2 G, Iowa Intensity 16U (Newton)
Third Team
2017 Max Stoltz, 6′ G, All Iowa Attack Black 17U (Ballard)
2017 Max Smith-Drahos, 5’10 PG, Iowa Dynasty 17U (Cedar Rapids Prairie)
2019 Trent Williamson, 6’2 G, Iowa Cornsharks 15U (Earlham)
2018 Hakeem Odunsi, 6’5 SF, Iowa Dynasty 16U (Iowa City West)
