Just a freshman, Brown is already one of the best leapers in the state. He threw down a dunk this weekend that was jaw-dropping; head at the rim, arm in the hoop type dunk. Brown is still a bit raw with his skill-set, but flashed some signs of versatility, making some 3s and putting the ball on the floor adeptly at times.
2019 Evan Gauger, 6′ G, All Iowa Attack Red (Indianola)
Highly skilled guard who has innate basketball savvy. He’s an elite shooter from deep, and though he handles it well, is most effective as an off guard. Gauger will become a superstar at Indianola, and it could happen as soon as next season when he’s a sophomore.
2019 Thomas Faber, 6’2 PG, All Iowa Attack Red (Dowling)
The biggest surprise for me so far this spring from the 2019 class, Faber already has the skill-set in place to be a star. And when his time comes to take the reins at Dowling, he will instantly be one of the state’s best lead guards. He’ll have to wait at least another yer though — Joey Kern and Sam Ingoli are in place now with the Maroons. Faber has deep range, plus-handles, great size, and superb passing ability.
2019 Logan Rashid, 5’10 PG, Iowa Pump ‘N Run (Fort Madison)
His team was shellacked by an elite All Iowa Attack Red squad, but Rashid was one of the few bright spots in the game for Pump ‘N Run. He’s a slick lead guard, who sees the floor well and passes adeptly. Also showed presence of mind to use pump-fake well in in transition.
2018 Brevin Hansen, 5’9 G, Iowa Intensity (Lynnville-Sully)
He has transferred from Grinnell into Lynnville-Sully and the Hawks are getting a skilled sharpshooter who can fill it up in a hurry. He averaged 6.2 points last year as a sophomore with the Tigers, and shot 47 percent from deep. He should only improve those numbers next season as he moves into a more prominent role with the smaller school.
2018 Ethan Mitchell, 6′ G, Iowa Intensity (Grinnell)
Like Hansen, Mitchell can light it up from deep. He was a 46 percent shooter from deep last season, and connected on at least five triples in an Iowa Intensity semifinal beat-down of Eastern Iowa Flight. He’s able to put the ball on the floor and blow by defenders when they guard against the 3 too tightly. Mitchell could blossom into a star next season with the Tigers.
