Under Armour (Los Angeles) and Nike (Atlanta) circuits have their final session as far as brand teams go while the Super 60 and Adidas Memorial Day events will occur in Westwego and Mandeville respectively within the state. Here are some things to watch for at each event.
Circuits
Louisiana Elite is 6-2 in the 17u UA Association behind 2017 star Josh Anderson (6’5 SG, Madison Prep) but will be playing without his high school teammate 6’6 F Joshua Leblanc this weekend due to an injury. They have some big games this weekend against other top teams but are looking to continue the run and take a trip to the UA Finals.
The 16u LA Elite team is 5-3 and needing to continue their run as well to make the finals. Led by 2018 6’1 PG Tyrese Radford (McKinley HS) and his incredible stat line (17.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.1 spg, 1.5 bpg), LA Elite could be well on their way to achieving their goals.
On the Nike circuit, EP Elite 17u won’t be returning to the Peach Jam (2-9 currently) but still have a lot left to prove after a roster shake-up. They are still led by 2017 Brandon Rachal (6’6 SF, Natchitoches Central) and his two way play. The improved jumper has gone a long way in rounding out his game.
Super 60
The Super 60 is one of the biggest tournaments in the south and widely attended by teams across the nation. The focus is more on younger teams but their are certainly some teams to watch throughout the weekend. That includes in the 14u division where Glen Davis’ Sports Academy team is fresh off of a Bob Gibbons 14u championship and proving to be one of the better teams in the nation. Led by 2020 6’1 PG Jalen Cook.
The 15u division holds at least half of the top 10 teams in 15u and most of the non sponsored teams that make up that top 10. That includes the ever improving Team F.A.S.T. which is led by 2019 6’6 F/C Moses Ngodock (Northshore HS). He improves every minute on the court and as he figures the game out, could become a scary talent within the state.
Adidas MDC
The event is being held at Pelican Park in Mandeville. The information about the event can be found on the Adidas MDC app.
The 17u pool includes LT Rockets and New Orleans Wolves from the Top 10 and a couple other teams from the state to watch. The Wolves are led by Raylon Hardy (6’1 PG, Hahnville, 2017) and Ryghe Lyons (6’7 F, John Curtis, 2017). The Rockets are led by Devaughn Gauno (5’10 G, Terrebone, 2017) and Kevin Johnson (6’1 PG, ED White, 2017).
16u pool includes 6th Man, LA Lightning, and YGLA among others in the state. 6th Man are led by Braylon Chaisson (6’4 F, 2018, Carencro) and LA Lightning are led by Corey Johnson (6’1 PG, Thibodaux, 2018). In the 15u division you can find LA Future, LA Shockaz, La Lightning, and YGLA among others from the state.
