The Iowa Elite program continues to build its brand, and the emergence of this talented 15U bunch is evidence of that. Lead by Valley product Trayvion Williams, Dowling point guard Jack Keough, and Urbandale forward Grant Garwood, they were able to overcome a sloppy start and quickly erased a halftime deficit. If this team stays intact it will be one of Iowa’s best for the next three summers.
MVP — 6’1 G Trayvion Williams (Valley)
An athletic combo-guard, Williams is a guy who can get buckets when he wants. He’s slithery when getting to the bucket, and gets off looks from anywhere, often making difficult shots.
10:10 — Martin Brothers Select 15U 51 vs KC Spurs 52
It was a very sluggish start for Martin Brothers who were visibly rattled by the full-court pressure and athleticism of their opponent. After they settled in though it was their game to lose. With 6.8 seconds to play and down one, Sioux City East guard Aidan Vanderloo was fouled and headed to the line where he calmly sank both free throws to give MB a one point advantage. The Spurs in-bounded and tossed the ball up-court though for a 15-foot game-winner.
MVP: 6′ G Aidan Vanderloo (Sioux City East)
When he was on the floor good things happen, when he wasn’t it was a bit herky-jerky. He’s a long and skilled guard with a very high basketball IQ – certainly deserving of his top-5 status in 2019.

11:15 — Iowa Mavs Orange 41 vs Martin Brothers Select 16U 65
What became very evident pretty quickly was that this Martin Brothers team is one of the best teams in Iowa, and probably the Midwest. The addition of former Barnstormers Luke Vaske and Jackson Joens has been vital — those two may be the best players on the team. Jason Taylor is a monster in the post, Carondis Harris-Anderson provides high-flying athleticism, and Matthew Mims is a solid point guard option. These guys will make a lot of noise over the next two summers.

1:25 — KH Elite 15U 59 vs MN Crossfire 49
Tyreke Locure was dazzling as he always is, especially on the defensive end, where he came away with at least six steals. James Betz is part two of the dynamic duo, both of which had been playing with the 16U Elite team, but are back playing with the 15s this weekend. Lino Malual — who like Locure is from DM North — is a dynamic athlete, who skies for o-boards and slices into the line. This team could be a threat to win it all tomorrow on Championship Sunday.
MVP: 5’9 PG Tyreke Locure (Des Moines North)
If I’m a D1 coach I’m offering this kid right now, and I don’t care if he’s only 5-foot-9. His uncanny defensive ability and his innate savvy are off the charts, and he’s supremely skilled to boot.
