There have been lots of prospects that have started to elevate their game in the last few weeks and scouts and colleges have taken notice. We take a step back to see who has seen their stock rise over the first few weeks of the AAU season.
Jaylen Butz
6’9 – PF – Fort Wayne North – Spiece Indy Heat 2017
Don’t be surprised if Butz starts to see his stock rise throughout the rest of the summer. Post players are always at a premium and he is one with upside who is showing out well on the Nike EYBL stage. The 6’9 forward has really improved his post scoring and his length and athleticism are starting to show up more and more on the low block, rather than on the wing.
Andrew Kenneally
6’7 – PF – Crown Point – Indiana Elite Region 2017
Kenneally might finally be hitting his stride. He’s a guy that I’ve liked for a while as a small school option but he’s been a bit reserved. I’m not sure you can say that anymore. The 6’7 forward is having a great spring so far and starting to be one of the better creators in the mid-range as he can catch and faceup to shoot or drive at the rim. When he gets touches, not many can slow him down.
Jaren Jackson Jr.
6’11 – PF – Park Tudor – Spiece Indy Heat 2017
Jaren is not only among the biggest stock risers in Indiana, but he’s one of the biggest risers in the entire country. He’s not flashy but his substance is great and his numbers reflect that. Jaren has made the move to become more of a wing player and it seems to be working out for him. Doesn’t matter where he was at, he was always going to be a guy who needed more time to get to his ceiling but now that he is shooting as much as he is, you can see where he can improve even though he’s already very good right now.
Jackson McHugh
6’6 – PF – Indianapolis Roncalli – Northside Spartans 2017 Staal
I’ve wondered how colleges would be able to use Jackson but this spring he might be starting to show them how to get the most out of him. The 6’6 forward has been much more of a wing player. He’s shooting and attacking off the bounce from the arc and he looks more and more like a small college 4/5. He still has to add some muscle to his frame but the layout for his projection might be a lot more visible now.
Jack Nunge
6’10 – PF – Castle – Pocket City 2017
Jack has been solid this spring and even though he might not have the biggest improvement on this list, his stock is going up and up with the more colleges are able to see him. The 6’10 forward is one of the better big man shooters but he continues to show that he won’t ignore the interior. He’s a system fit for sure but at the right place, he could be a big time impact player for a HM program.
Trevor Lakes
6’7 – PF – Lebanon – Grassroots Indiana 2017 Blue
Over the last year, Trevor has completed his move to a straight perimeter player. He’s one of the best shooters in the class right now from distance and at 6’7, you aren’t really going to stop him if he wants to shoot. He’s starting to gain some bigger interest over the last few months and for good reason. The book isn’t closed on him in terms of the type of player he can be so don’t be surprised to see his stock keep going up this summer.
