G Brandon Hurt (Team Rose) Marian Catholic
Hurt was great in one of the events marquee matchups that put Team Rose against a loaded Mac Irvin Fire team. Brandon has a knack for scoring and he did in different ways. He used his physique to bully guys defending him. He finished well in traffic and made a couple of shots from long range. Helped Team Rose to a victory with his strong play.
PG Ayo Dosunmu (Mac Irvin Fire) Morgan Park
Ayo is still riding a wave from the previous weekend where it led to an offer from his state school in the University of Illinois. The Morgan Park guard is a flat our scorer who got it done in multiple ways. He shot a high percentage from deep he was the leading scorer in a victory over Lock City in the morning game. He had 24 points.
SG Justin Boyd (Meanstreets) Whitney Young
Justin Boyd sat out the first game because he was nursing an injury on his non- shooting hand, but in a matchup against ALL In/Y&R he showed no effects from the injury because he was on fire from 3. He went 5 for 6 in the game where 4 of the shots didn’t touch the rim. It was an eye opening game for Boyd. His efforts led to a blowout victory for Meanstreets.
F Jake Kosokowski (Team Rose) Whitney Young
The 6’6” big man caught a hot streak like his high school teammate Justin Boyd in a contest earlier against Lock City Elite. Jake went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc in a blowout victory. Already blessed with good size Jake shoots the ball with beautiful form. He has some other dimensions that needs to be added to his game, but right now he’s excelling as a plus shooter. He finished with 20 points in the win.
PF Isa Maguire (ALL IN Y&R) Lindblom
The 6’9” big man from Linblom is starting to come into his own now. Very raw still but played with an intensity you rarely get from sophomore his size. Isa changed and block shots at a high rate late Saturday in his game against Irish Elite. He is gangly with a long wingspan that helps him rebound outside of his area. Still growing offensively as well he scored in the post a couple of times. Also stepped out for two possessions hitting 15 foot jump shots. Maguire is still learning the game and it will be intriguing to see his game grow the rest of this spring.
PG Markese Jacobs (Mac Irvin Fire 15U) Uplift
Jacobs is who he is no matter what level he’s playing. Even with his 15U squad playing up he just punished the opposing lead guards. Markeese has good physical strength for a freshman. He goes through big men if they try to deny him from the basket. With good body control he’s never afraid of the challenge. In a loss to the Demons 16U squad Jacobs led his team with 17 points.
PG Marquan Williams (Meanstreets) Perspectives
Williams showed an improving dimension to his game that we don’t see as much. He made shots consistently from 3. Usually known as a lightening quick guard who can get to the basket at will he was amped in the matchup against All-In/Y&R. He finished with 15 points and a win. He made a statement that he’s still a player the schools should be looking for in July.
