- King Myles hit another game winner in a big contest. This winter the Tartan 2017 guard won Player of the Week for his game winner and last night he gave Powerhouse Hoops a big win over All Iowa Attack with a corner trey to end the game. Why is this a big win for them? Powerhouse is working to be one of Minnesota’s better programs and they took out the top team from one of Iowa’s best and King Myles had the biggest shot of the night.
- Still Hot Part 1. With Grassroots Minnesota off for the weekend Jaquan Sanders-Smith jumped on Minnesota Phenom and that three point stroke is still dropping in buckets. Late in the game Jaquan took over when Phenom was down to the Suns first with a nasty acrobatic score through three guys and down the stretch of regulation he hit four deep jumpers including two treys and one of the nastiest crossover pull-ups you will ever see.
- Still Hot Part 2. This has been an amazing spring for Brad Davison when it comes to his jumpshot and the touch is still flaming. Brad’s hand is still on fire so stay clear of a handshake. He made another three treys and scored a team high 17 points in the Howard Pulley win over Minnesota Ice.
- BIG numbers. Minnesota Ice had a 6-foot-4 big trying to slow down Theo John and Daniel Oturo. How did that go? Theo had 11 points and ten boards, Oturo went for 14 points and eight boards. Both were not only too big, they were both too agile for anything the Ice had. Outro highlighted the game with a two hand putback off the glass and both were all over the front of the rim for production. Theo looks so much more physically advantaged than everyone else in the gym.
- Who is that tall guy? That is 6-foot-10 Minnesota Suns big Ghedi Abdihakim from the Minnesota Suns. He’s a senior graduating from Edina where he didn’t play varsity because the Hornets cut him. This guy is one I would take a chance on if I was an area junior college. He is very raw, has little experience, and the game is moving very fast for him because he wasn’t able to get experience at Edina. A junior college willing to work with him and let him learn could definitely have something. He scored four times in the game we watched including a face-up And1. He got to several boards although grabbed about two-thirds of them. I ranked senior centers in Minnesota out to 15 this winter and he would have ranked about 6th for the senior class.
- What about that number 10 on Ice? That is Michael Carter from Woodbury. Carter was the one guy that was able to score on Pulley when the game was somewhat close still and Pulley was engaged defensively. He hit three treys and then attacked his way to the rest of his 17 points plus six rebounds. Nice player who can score in several ways.
- Isaac Johnson! Isaac scored 16 active points including two of his high arcing treys. Thought Isaac was determined to battle his way to production in front of a nice crowd and he did just that.
- Best rebounding wing out there. McKinley Wright is the best rebounding guard, Trae Berhow is the best rebounding wing. Loves to mix it up, collect, turn the other way and start the break. Really liked how clean his jumper looked as well. Had 15 points and ten boards to lead Powerhouse to that big win.
- Just 90 footers? Nah. Oman Oman hits 90 footers so what is a couple treys? The Austin big came off the bench and hit three treys and then scored twice around the basket giving Powerhouse Hoops a big lift. He was the big on the floor at the end of the game. Also playing very well for Powerhouse was Mar Mar Hughes who was too physical in attack for the All Iowa Attack players.
- A guy who I thought had a big night was…. Phenom guard Khlaif Ahmad from Park Center. The senior-to-be made big shots late in the corner and his defensive efforts resulted in Suns turnovers. Another nice player for James Ware to use in a building Pirate program.
