17U
This is a 26 team 17U top division that includes 23 teams from Minnesota (and a team from Omaha, North Dakota, and Canada). Amongst those 23 teams are ten teams from the NHR top 25 including top ten area teams in Fury Zurn, MN Warriors, Powerhouse MN, Comets DLR, Fury Kallman, and WOTN Nicols. This makes for an excellent final four and a really good elite eight when you include the North Dakota Phenom and whichever OSA Crusaders team is playing.
The match-up everybody is waiting for? That would have to be a Warriors vs Fury Zurn rematch from their wild game at the Comets Shootout won by Fury after they got a late offensive board to sent the game to overtime. The Powerhouse team could make a statement this weekend with a win over any of those teams as they haven’t been in a local event with most of these teams as of yet. That changes this weekend. Also, how good is the Kallman team? They have won three straight events but those events haven’t had this caliber of teams. We will find out this weekend.
16U
The top 16U division has 30 teams and includes 15 of the top 25 ranked teams in the recently released NHR top 25 poll. That’s a healthy number of quality teams and it includes top ten level teams Fury Wilde, Powerhouse Hoops Black, Comets Servaty, MN Eagles, and tMBA Witthus.
The host team Fury Wilde is the favorite but the field is quite wide open. The Eagles have only lost four games, tMBA Wittus five games, Comets Servaty has lost just five and won the Mile High Classic, and Powerhouse Black joins Fury Wilde as having the most talent in the event.
15U
The 15U top event has 21 teams including nine from our last top 20 ranking (yes we will be updating the 15U rankings before the tournament, hopefully tomorrow). Who is the favorite? This is wide open as any event can be. There are 14U teams, there are a couple high school teams, out of state teams, and while it doesn’t have many of the top ten teams in the state, it does have just about everybody 11-20. This could be as wide open of a 15U event with top 20 teams as you will see.
Tomorrow.
Look for our predictions and a prospect preview for this event in the next coming days.
