This Iowa Dynasty team continues to impress — they won the Gold Bracket last weekend at Battle at the Lakes — and they could be a team to seriously contend for a title here tomorrow afternoon. Yes this Wolves team was playing up a division, but it’s a team chock-full of 2018 talent, yet Dynasty was in control from start to finish and the game was never in question. Also, the all red, white, and blue uniform that Dynasty was wearing: awesome.
MVP: Jake Eilers 6’4 G, Iowa Dynasty (Cedar Rapids Prairie)
Eilers — who despite being a 2017 is playing with 16U and 17U — was sensational in this one, scoring 13 first half points while sizzling from outside. He also impacted the game with steals and blocked shots. He’s having a big spring.

1:20 — All Iowa Attack 16U 62 vs Iowa Dynasty 78
Another very impressive group of Dynasty guys took out All Iowa Attack’s top 16U squad in dominating fashion. Seybian Sims, Hakeem Odunsi, and Evan Flitz — all Iowa City West guys — were sensational in the win, and they are proof that the wealth of Talent the Trojans have enjoyed of late will continue. For Attack, Joey Dow is an intriguing guard coming through the ranks for Hoover, and Mason City shooting guard Jake Rood could develop into one of the state’s best shooters over the next two seasons.
MVP: Evan Flitz 5’11 PG, Iowa Dynasty (Iowa City West)
Simply put: Evan Flitz gets buckets. He is a smart point guard who never forces shots, and showcased some nice range and blow-by ability in this one. And, he’ll get to practice against Devontae Lane and Connor McCaffery everyday in practice next season. That should only make him better.

2:25 — Tryon Gym 15U 66 vs Cornsharks Select 71
The score is a bit misleading, this one was not quite as close as the five point margin would indicate. This ‘Sharks squad has some real nice players — i.e. Trey Hinote and Trent Williamson — and they led wire-to-wire in this one. With the win, the Cornsharks advance as the top-seed from Pool A, and will play in a quarterfinal match later tonight at 7:50.
MVP: Trent Willamson 6’2 G, Cornsharks (Earlham)
He’s one of our highest-ranked 2019s, and justified his ranking here today. The good-sized guard was smart, only making moves that helped his team. He was slicing to the hole and hitting from deep offensively. And he was key down the stretch when his team needed him most.

4:35 — Iowa Dynasty 15U 57 vs Wisconsin Soldiers 65
West Branch 2019 Beau Cornwell — who scored 47 in a varsity game last season as a freshman — was red-hot, scoring 14 points in the first 8 minutes of this one. With his sizzle, the team took a substantial early lead. But when Cornwell cooled, so did his team. And a six point Dynasty lead at half was quickly erased in the second, until the wheels fell completely off late in the game.
MVP: Beau Cornwell 6′ G, Iowa Dynasty (West Branch)
We knew he could score in bunches, people don’t just score 47 points without that ability. And his scoring ability was on full display to start this game. He will develop into a very nice player for West Branch.

5:40 — Attack Black 17U 64 vs Iowa Prep 53
After the Iowa Barnstormers and Kingdom Hoops Elite there are a handful of teams in the state that could vie for third best honors; and despite being Attack’s second team, this Black squad could be a team to consider for third best. They beat Attack Red the one time they played this spring. And every time I see them play, they win. They play hard, they play smart, and they play together. It will be interesting to see how they play tomorrow during Championship Sunday.
MVP: Joey Kern, 5’11 PG, All Iowa Attack Black (Dowling)
Definitely the leader of this group that is comprised of nearly half Dowling guys, Kern is also the most skilled. He is a smart player, with a nice handle, who is a sniper from deep and can make tough shots in the paint. I love this kid’s game.

6:45 — All Iowa Attack Red 17U 89 vs Team Iowa 81
In what was easily the most entertaining game I saw on Saturday, Team Iowa — led by 2018 point guard Hunter Strait — gave a spirited effort but came up short against one of the state’s best squads. Strait was dazzling again, as he has been all spring, finishing with a game-high 25 points. But there was just too much talent on the other side, including ever-improving stretch-four Austin Roetman, sharpshooter Connor Kasperbauer, and big-man Max Techau.
MVP: Hunter Strait 6′ PG, Team Iowa (Cedar Rapids Washington)
Normally we do not award the losing team with the MVP, but it was very clear in this one what player on the floor was most valuable to his team. Without Strait, Team Iowa would have buried, he was that good tonight.
