SG Craig Beudion (Illinois Icemen 17U)
It was a breakout day for Beaudion. He made the switch over from Meanstreets into a more prominent role as a scorer and he put on a show! The Whitney Young 2017 shooting guard scored at will throughout the day. He is a slender built wing that is slippery through traffic getting to the hoop and accelerating through traffic. Hit several runners and mid-range jumpers. Range stretches out to three with ease. Great showing from the potential low-major prospect.
SG Carlos Hines (Illinois Icemen 17U)
Shooting guard that can really fill it up. Athletic and rangy frame with quality length. He was streaky from three, but definitely shows he has NBA range on his jumper pulling up from deep. Smooth scorer that flies down the court in transition and uses body control at the rim to convert. Like what he brings to the table defensively with his motor and in your face mentality. Potential D1 prospect.
G David Forrest (Illinois Icemen 16U)
The Foreman combo guard was without his point guard so he handled much of the on ball responsibilities. Forrest is a physical guard with a thick upper body where he can overpower weaker defenders. Very powerful driving to the hoop finishing with layups and runners. Not a great shooter, but has definitely improved in that area. Rebounds well for a guard. Forced a few passes as a distributor. The 2018 prospect could be a D1 player down the line with more development.
PG Brandon Hurt (Team Rose 16U)
Despite their early morning loss on Saturday this Marian Catholic point guard was very impressive. Hurt has good size and strength for the lead guard position. He plays strong with the basketball and handles it well in tight spaces. Very powerful getting in the lane where he can make plays for himself and others. As a scorer in the paint Hurt can knock down runners and layups. Dishes well to his shooters and bigs for quick dump off dunks. Solid pull up jump shooter especially from mid-range. Really improved feel for game from lead guard spot. Needs to be on the D1 radar in 2018.
SF Jake Kosokwski (Team Rose 16U)
Kosokowski lit it up in the Saturday night finale for Team Rose. The Whitney Young big wing has great size and strength for the position. He can really shoot the basketball from deep. Great off the catch spotting up in the corners and on the wings. Improved his athleticism some over the last year and even showed some hops in transition which have both helped diversify his game. Kosokowski had 26 points in their first bracket play game.
PF Tyree Martin (Team Rose 16U)
At 6’8” Tyree Martin is really starting to emerge in the 2018 class. The Curie power forward is a force on both ends of the floor. First and foremost he is an outstanding offensive rebounder. He hits the glass with an explosive second jump recording multiple put backs in every game. Very active on the offensive end with his high motor and energy. Not a real back to the basket scorer yet, but gets his points running the floor, on offensive rebounds, and quick dunks. Defensively was a major presence swatting shots. Uses length and bounce to change game. He should be looked at by low and mid-major schools already.
G Dwayne Rose (Team Rose 17U)
The star for the 17U Team Rose on Saturday was this Crete Monee standout. Without Elijah Joiner this weekend it was Rose who had to carry the scoring load. He hit a couple pull up jumpers, but overall his shot wasn’t on. Rose did however use his strength and ball handling ability to get in the lane where he scored around the rim. Likes the euro step finish. Tough to stop when he gets a head of steam going downhill. While not a dominant defender Rose did show the ability to get in passing lanes and start the break. Combo guard is a mid-major to low-major prospect.
SG Luke Anthony (Young Legends 17U)
Anthony was on fire from three against D1 Minnesota. The wing is a plus shooter from beyond the arc. He can be streaky at times, but when he is on it is lights out! Pure mechanics and a clean stroke. Moves well without the ball to both get open to set up his three, but also cutting to the basket away from the ball. Love his ability to be in the right spot at the right time ready to make a play. Anthony showed improved ability off the bounce handling the ball nicely on a couple drives. D2 prospect at this stage.
SF Joe Wieskamp (Iowa Barnstormers 16U)
The Iowa Hawkeyes 2018 commit is quite impressive with his combination of size, strength, athleticism, and skill. He checks a lot of boxes off. Blessed with great size he can see over the defense and get his jump shot off from pretty much anywhere on the floor. Plus three point shooter. Also scores off the bounce with spins in the lane. Rebounds well for position particularly on the offensive end. Top 50 national talent.
G Lamar Norman (1Nation 16U)
The 6’0” 2018 combo guard from Michigan put on a show! He is just a born scorer with his ability to get buckets in a variety of ways. The rising junior is quick in the open floor using his speed to push it where he accelerates to the rim. Gets in the lane and to the hoop with ease. Can hit an occasional three. Creative passer with the ball showing combo guard potential. Active hands defensively. He currently has no offers. Without question he is a mid-major talent and possibly high-major before it is all over with.
PF Matthew Hurt (D1 Minnesota 17U)
At 6’9” Hurt has all the tools as a 2019 prospect to be special as a face up four man. He is playing up two age levels and doesn’t miss a beat. Hurt is a thinly built post that will definitely need to add strength moving forward, but he has plenty of time for that. His skill level is off the charts with his ability to hit pull up jumpers and feel around the hoop. Defensively his length causes so many problems as he blocks shot after shot. No doubt high major and potential 5-star nationally in 2019.
