Battle at the Lakes: Saturday AM Standouts (IA, WI, MN)
2018 AJ Green, 6’1 PG, Iowa Barnstormers (Cedar Falls)
What a player. We knew he was becoming a superstar after his performance at the state tournament in March, but he continues improve and subsequently dazzle. He’s a legit 6-foot, maybe 6’1 with shoes on, and his ability to create his own looks in uncanny. The thing is, when he gets that space he’s a knock-down shooter from 10-20 feet. It was especially eye-opening to see his adeptness on defense. He’s a complete player; looks like a high-major kid to me.
2018 Joe Wieskamp, 6’6 G/F, Iowa Barnstormers (Muscatine)
The Iowa Hawkeye commit continues to turn heads at this tournament, like he’s been doing for close to two years now. Known as a shooter in the past, he is still that, but so much more. He rebounds extraordinarily well from the guard spot, and his post scoring is as good as any big out there. He’ll burn you with buckets from all three levels, and should be a future star for the Hawks.
2018 Elijah Hazekamp, 6’6 SF, Iowa Barnstormers (Bishop Heelan)
Hazekamp had a very strong second half in the Barnstormers’ drubbing of Team Rose. He’s a true inside/outside threat, and — like Wieskamp — is a tremendous rebounder as a wing. He gets tough buckets adeptly while slashing to the hole, and with his size and ability should be getting looked at by low-major D1s.
2018 Brady Sartorius, 6′ PG, Iowa Barnstormers (Mount Pleasant)
An athletic and tough point guard, Sartorius is not asked to star with this ‘Stormers squad, but he could blossom into a superstar next season with Mount Pleasant. He leaps well, and though he’s a smaller guard, scored all of his points from 10-feet and in.
2019 Jarvis Wright, 6’3 F, Minneapolis FAB (Park Center)
Big bodied forward for a sneaky good Minneapolis FAB 15U squad. He stepped out and knocked-down a 23-footer right in front of me, and also has the ability to bang down low. He’s a versatile threat who passes well for a forward and has nice court-awareness.
2019 Adrione Sprinkles, 6’2 G, Minneapolis FAB (Brooklyn Center)
Sprinkles got off to a blistering start against WI Academy, scoring 11 first half points, and that’s what he ended with after playing seldom in the second. But it was still a game high. He’s a playmaker with decent size and a decent handle, who can step out and beat you with a 3-ball.
2019 AJ Thompson, 6’2 G, Wisconsin Academy – Leverson (Janesville Parker)
Thompson was the best player on the floor this morning for his team. He was constantly in attack mode and showed an ability to absorb contact well despite a slender build. A rangy guard with a combo-guard skill set, he can hit the 3-ball, or beat you off the dribble.
