Battle at the Lakes: Friday Night ’18 Evals
Jarvis Thomas, 6’7 SF, D1 Minnesota 16U (Orono)
A long and extraordinarily athletic wing. Thomas was wrecking-havoc on the smaller and over-matched Iowa Elite squad Friday night. He’s a high-flyer who when gets going can find his head at the rim, including when he provided a showstopping dunk from a backboard alley-oop.
Race Thompson, 6’7 F, D1 Minnesota 16U (Robbinsdale)
Big and strong, but still able to rise, he’s more of a post than a wing right now, and was having his way against a much smaller Iowa Elite squad Friday night. It was plain to see why Minnesota has offered him, and why he’s Minnesota’s No.2 player in 2018
Calvin Wishart, 6’1 PG, D1 Minnesota 16U (Delano)
Love this kid’s game. He was playing with a certain swagger Friday night, and rightfully so. His crossover is sick, and his court-awareness is uncanny. He’s got quick hands on defense, and even swiped a steal from his opponent head on in back court. Low to mid-major D1s should take notice.
Hunter Strait, 6′ PG, Iowa Elite 16U (Cedar Rapids Washington)
Though his team was shorthanded and over-matched against D1 Minnesota Friday night, Strait looked like he belonged against the supremely talented squad. He was making plays and getting to the hoop, and his handles were on point as usual. He caught the attention of several staff writers from other states. Strait should be getting some serious D1 looks right now.
Sam Ingoli, 6’4 PG, Iowa Elite 16U (Dowling)
Like Strait, Ingoli certainly looked the part and seemed to belong on the floor with the mid to high-major talent of D1 Minnesota. He was the lead guard for much of the game and did a good job of protecting the ball. Ingoli was getting to the hoop with ease, and on several occasions connected on some flashy dimes creatively, finding wide-open teammates.
John Waggoner, 6’6 C, Iowa Elite (Dowling)
We knew this already, but it was enhanced tonight; John Waggoner is an absolute warrior. He’s more athletic than his burly frame would suggest, and he times his jumps well, allowing for him to hold his own against the long and athletic bigs for D1 Minnesota. Waggoner will be a star at Dowling next season.
