PG Brandon Hurt (Team Rose 16U)
Hurt has quality size and strength for the lead guard position. He plays strong with the basketball and handles it well in tight spaces. Very powerful getting in the lane where he can make plays for himself and others. As a scorer in the paint Hurt can knock down runners and layups. Dishes well to his shooters and bigs for quick dump off dunks. Solid pull up jump shooter especially from mid-range. Really improved his feel for the game from lead guard spot. Needs to be on the D1 radar in 2018.
SF Jake Kosokwski (Team Rose 16U)
The Whitney Young big wing has great size and strength for the position. He can really shoot the basketball from deep. Great off the catch spotting up in the corners and on the wings. Improved his athleticism some over the last year and even showed some hops in transition which have both helped diversify his game. Shooting is still his go his go to weapon. D2 prospect with low-major potential.
PF Tyree Martin (Team Rose 16U)
At 6’8” Tyree Martin is really starting to emerge in the 2018 class. The Curie power forward is a force on both ends of the floor. First and foremost he is an outstanding offensive rebounder. He hits the glass with an explosive second jump recording multiple put backs in every game. Very active on the offensive end with his high motor and energy. Not a real back to the basket scorer yet, but gets his points running the floor, on offensive rebounds, and quick dunks. Defensively was a major presence swatting shots. Uses length and bounce to change the game. He should be looked at by low and mid-major schools already.
PF Treavon Martin (Team Rose 16U)
Martin is a 6’8” four man that put his name on the map across the state in the state tournament where he had a huge effort to help Curie capture the title. Plus defensive rebounder that high points the ball with his great length. He has got stronger in his upper body over the last few months. Offensively is pretty raw in the post beyond catching quick passes for dunks. Can knock down a 15-18 foot jumper on occasion. Definitely has D1 potential.
SG Vinny Belcaster (Team Rose 16U)
Shooting guard from Morton that is at his best when spotting up from three. Has a bit of a funky release on his shot, but it tends to go in especially off the catch. Plays with max effort flying around for loose balls. Small college prospect.
SG Jordan Matthews (Team Rose 16U)
Combo guard that can handle it a little on the ball in a pinch. The lefty is slippery in traffic and finishes well around the hoop for his size. Small college prospect.
SG Jayden Gasby (Team Rose 16U)
Gasby really impressed us during the season with Urban Prep Englewood. He is a strongly built two guard with solid athleticism. Was inconsistent throughout the event especially with his jump shot. Forces some shots at times. Has scoring potential when he is the go to guy. Small college prospect at the next level.
SG Ryan Phillips (Fundamental U 16U)
Jacobs 6’3” shooting guard that has a thick body. Tough kid that handles it solid and likes to get to the cup especially in transition. D3/NAIA prospect.
PG David Swedura (Fundamental U 16U)
Quick point guard from Prospect that is a solid athlete converting a couple athletic finishes around the hoop including an up and under. Three point ability off the catch when spotting up. Small college prospect.
G David Forrest (Illinois Icemen 16U)
The Foreman combo guard was without his point guard so he handled much of the on ball responsibilities. Forrest is a physical guard with a thick upper body where he can overpower weaker defenders. Very powerful driving to the hoop finishing with layups and runners. Improving perimeter shooter. Rebounds well for a guard. Forced a few passes as a distributor. The 2018 prospect could be a D1 player down the line with more development.
SF Piotr Gago (Icemen 16U)
Gago is a 6’4” wide shouldered forward that relies on his toughness and craftiness around the hoop to score. Not overly athletic. Grinder that will be a good team guy at the D3/NAIA level.
C Isa Maguire (All-In/Young & Reckless 16U)
Maguire has a lot of raw tools with size at around 6’8” with super long arms. He is thin, but has the frame to continue to add strength. Quality area rebounder that high points balls with length. Likes to score using his mobility on the interior. Flashes ability down low, but it isn’t consistent at this stage. Needs to be monitored by low-major programs.
SF Toraze Dobbs (All-In/Young & Reckless 16U)
Dobbs is a thick bodied 6’4” small forward that is best a spot up shooter. The Uplift wing was streaky shooting throughout the event. Not the most athletic prospect Dobbs uses his strength around the hoop to get an offensive rebound on occasion. Small college prospect with chance to elevate.
PG Cortez Bailey (All-In/Young & Reckless 16U)
The 5’9” point guard from Bogan had a quality event running the show for Y&R. Bailey didn’t score a ton, but dished the rock to his teammates making plays as a distributing point guard. Slick ball handler that can get through traffic. Tries to be a little too flashy with it at times. Pesky on ball defender. Small college prospect.
SF Donita Johnson (All-In/Young & Reckless 16U)
Johnson has all the physical tools at 6’6” with broad shoulders and long arms. He has been sick the last couple weeks and that has slowed down the Romeoville wings production. Johnson can hit a baseline jumper and get on the offensive glass. Best in transition using his athleticism. One to track over the next couple years.
SG RJ McGee (All-In/Young & Reckless 16U)
McGee is new to Y&R and made an impact. He is an elite athlete as he showed with several monster slams including one where he posterized a defender and had the crowd going crazy! Physical wing with the ability to knock down a spot up three as well. Prospect that is emerging that we will be watching closely.
