- Went out to the Mile High Classic and won their pool, and won two bracket play games before losing in the championship. The Colorado event usually has most of the Colorado teams save the top couple plus a few teams from Minnesota (it’s actually run by a Minnesota Grassroots program) and the surrounding states. Competition is okay so playing in the title game is a nice accomplishment. Based on the results of the first two weekends we feel they have earned the number one spot
- Three tournaments played, two losses, not bad. A really nice start for a nice group of players that compete well. Picked up nice wins over Nebraska Select and Dakota Phenom but had a terrible time with the Fury Kallman squad (a top ten team in Minnesota, the second best 17U team in the Fury organization). The blowout loss to the Fury kept them from top spot consideration but a nice performance so far.
- At 2-6 how are they high? A couple reasons. 1) the competition they are playing in the NY2AL is far and above what other teams are playing and that is simply a truth. Number two they have lost numerous close games including a one pointer in the opener and then an overtime game to a really good Wisconsin Shooters team. The Schoolers are very close to going on a run, they just need to mold some things as a unit on both ends and when they are used to one another these close losses will be wins. SPTS play stars in two weekends.
- ND Phenom. Won the pool but had some sticky moments with Select Ellis and then lost close games to the SW Stars and the BBA Force. The Phenom was right there in both games and couldn’t get past either for a result they were hoping for (playing in the title game or earning third place). They are hoping to take a step forward in May Minnesota tournaments when they play in the Battle at the Lakes and in the Fury Tournament.
- D-17. It’s not just an edge of familiarity for this team, it’s also that they have talent. Talent that could play for any of the other North Dakota teams and help. After sneaking by PBC Knippling they beat the smack out of everybody in bracket play. Games weren’t anywhere near close.
- ECI Prospects. Off this week, will be back in action in two weeks when they play in the SPTS opener.
- ECI Select. A nice showing for the Select bunch winning three of four and only losing to event runner-up Minnesota Select Leafblad. Hammered the rest of their opponents including the Niners and Showtime Hoopers. Winning 3 of 4 is solid work.
- PBC Buus. Tough start losing three of four this weekend including a 19 point lost to the Phenom and then closes to the Omaha Crusaders second team and the Minnesota Comets third 17U team.
- PBC Knippling. Lost to the Minnesota Select second squad by 19 but took the Orange Division winner (D-17s) to the final seconds in a one point game. After a couple losses they won the Consolation bracket.
- Heat/Niners. Heat gave a couple Nebraska teams good games but struggled with the Minnesota teams. The Heat is young so it will take some time (they have three 16U kids playing up). The Niners were also winless (we think, the Sunday morning game wasn’t reported score wise) although they gave the 4th Minnesota Comets team a run but had trouble with the Dakota squads. Both played in their first event of the year.
