Louisiana Elite (4-0) on the UA circuit, New Orleans Elite (2-2) on the Adidas circuit, and EP Elite (1-2) on the Nike circuit all had players stand out. While some players who play on out of state teams really shined as well.
EYBL (Nike Circuit)
Elfrid Payton Elite had a 1-2 weekend and were led by the play of 6’6 2017 F Brandon Rachal (Natchitoches Central) who is in his 2nd year on the 17u circuit in the EYBL. His averages of 13.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game both lead the team and he did so while providing his usual defense (1.3 steals) and shooting over 53% from the floor. Newcomer and UNO commit in 6’4 2017 G Davontavean Martin (Ellender) was 2nd in scoring with 10.3 points and first in assists with 2.7 a game while providing 1.3 steals a game as well. The real breakout player for the team was 6’7 2017 F David Williams (De La Salle) as he averaged 6.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1 block per game in just 15.3 mpg of action.
Pro Skills big man in 6’11 2017 F/C Mitchell Robinson (Chalmette) looked incredible while averaging 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 blocks per game for the 1-2 club.
Adidas Gauntlet
New Orleans Elite had a 2-2 and were led by one of the top performers in the entire series in 6’7 2016 F Jalen Johnson (University). He put up 21.3 points, 7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1 steal a game while shooting 60% from the field, 56.3% from the three point line, and making 22 of his 29 free throws. He led the team in scoring and rebounding. Another big time performer was 5’10 2017 PG Romin Williams (Country Day) who averaged 8.3 points, led the team in assists, and only had 5 turnovers in the four games. He picked up an offer from Northwestern State to get his first D1 offer.
Under Armour Association
Louisiana Elite was one of the top teams in the nation this past weekend going 4-0 behind the play of a very balanced roster. Madison Prep’s 6’5 2017 SG Joshua Anderson put up 12.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.8 steals a game to lead the team in scoring and steals while his high school teammate 6’6 2018 F Joshua Leblanc put up 10 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1 steal, and 1.5 blocks to fill up the stat sheet. Former LSU commit in 6’3 2017 G Cedric Russell (Peabody) was 2nd in scoring with 10.2 points and added 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals a game.
Louisiana Mr. Basketball was 6’4 2018 PG Javonte Smart (Scotlandville) led Beast Mode with 14.2 points and 2.8 assists while 6’8 2017 F Joseph Thompson (Bonnabel) added 7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1 block for them. Look below to see the big dunk by Thompson.
On the 16u UAA circuit, Louisiana Elite’s Jharon Whitfield (6’1 SG 2018 Madison Prep) and Kobe Julien (6’6 F 2018 Madison Prep) both stood out while Terry Collins Jr. (6’2 G 2018 Bonnabel) had a big weekend as well.
