Another cut from the same mold as the Tyreke Locures and AJ Greens of the state. Though he’s not quite on the same tier as those two yet, he is a slick and skilled guard that can light it up from deep. We’ll keep a close eye on this young stock-riser.
Sebit Kallio 6’3 G, Roosevelt/Iowa Wolves 16U (2018)
The rangy and good-sized guard impressed last fall at the Cornshark Shootout, but then did not play at all with Des Moines Lincoln’s varsity. He’s now transferred to Des Moines Rooselvelt, where his ability to finish at the rim and hit the long-ball should certainly make him an impact player in the CIML.
Nick Johnson 6’4 F, Hoover/Kingdom Hoops 1 16U (2018)
With versatile 6-foot-4 forward Nate Lee graduating from Hoover, it would appear the Huskies have lucked into a carbon-copy of the all-conference performer. That’s high praise for Johnson, and though he’s not at Lee’s level just yet, he’s got the foundation to become the same type of impact player.
Luke Appell 6’5 SG, Marshalltown/Iowa Wolves 16U (2018)
His development has been shocking over the past year, and he’s blossomed into a player that could be a legit star with Marshalltown next season. He’s huge, and plays the guard spot, shoots it well from deep and is developing a dribble-drive. Watch out for this stock-riser.
Justin Boord 6’4 PF, Urbandale/Kingdom Hoops 1 16U (2018)
He was lighting it up from long-range in his team’s Saturday morning loss to eventual champs Iowa Wolves, and nearly willed it to victory in the process. He’s a post first and foremost, and has the size to bang with other CIML big boys next season.
Tommy Donovan 6′ PG, Carlisle/Kingdom Hoops 1 16U (2018)
A quick and athletic guard who likes to push and sees the floor well, good things happened when he was pushing tempo. He flashed and ability to hit the long ball too.
Douglas Wilson 6’6 PF, Hoover/Kingdom Hoops Elite 17U (2017)
It’s a scary thought, but he again looks like he’s gotten much better since we last saw him. He doesn’t simply leap, he soars, and he had a couple rim-wrecking dunks that got the crowd going. He’s great around the rim, and it appears he’s been working on a dribble-drive technique from the perimeter. He looks like a low-major D1 prospect.
Jal Bijiek 6’7 SF, Des Moines North/Kingdom Hoops Elite 17U (2017)
Like Wilson, Bijiek is a high-riser with rim-wrecking capability. He slammed home three monster dunks, one from a putback, in his team’s win over Go-Hawks 17U — and also like Wilson, he soars. Long arms make him an elite shot-blocker, he swatted one back into the wall. As he continues to hone his perimeter skills, D1 schools should be watching.
Drew Maschoff 6’4 G, Ankeny/Kingdom Hoops Elite 17U (2017)
He’s grown a bit, up to 6-foot-4, and his outside shooting is increasingly becoming a strength of his. Another good leaper from the KH 17U squad, if afforded the opportunity Maschoff can fly above the rim. He Mentioned after the game he’d like to work on cutting back turnovers.
Isaac Prewitt 6’1 G, Des Moines Christian/Kingdom Hoops Elite 16U (2018)
He was third option last season at Des Moines Christian, behind Air Force signee Keaton Van Soelen and 2017 stock-riser Ben Juhl. But it looks like the sound and sharp combo guard is ready to let his star shine as he heads into his upperclassmen years with the Lions.
