Tylan Dean has been producing at a high level for a while and his range has become widespread knowledge as he improves the other areas of his game. As one of the top shooters and scorers in the 2017 class in Louisiana, Dean is sure to draw even more interest from schools going forward.
At 6’1, he understands the transition to point guard is going to have to happen and had this to say about his summer; “I have already started working on my ball handling and increasing my ball handling speed. That is what I am working on the most as of now.” As he develops his ability to get those around him shots, he’ll be extremely well rounded as someone who averaged 6 rebounds and 3 steals a game last season to go with his 19.3 points and 66 made 3s.
In the live periods the past couple weekends, his shooting ability has really stood out and as he stated that “opens up the lane” for him to score. He discussed at length different variables that will go into his decision that include, “A good relationship with the coach, being comfortable, and going somewhere I know I am going to play.” Academics will play a part as well, “the kinesiology program has to be up to par because that’s what I am majoring in.” He’s heard from Louisiana Tech, Wichita State, Texas State, Cal State Bakersfield, Univ of Chicago, and Univ of Dallas but is still awaiting the first offer.
Dean was named a LSWA Class 1A All-State honorable mention after leading Grambling Lab to the 3rd round of the playoffs before losing to 1A runner-ups Southern Lab. The versatile scoring guard is looking to build on that season and carry it over into the summer and next year. Tylan plays his summer ball with Louisiana Select – Team Millsap and has a 3.4 GPA while scoring a 18 recently on this ACT.
