Continue ReadingAfter a rough star Owen Chose and the Eden Prairie Eagles made the state tournament led by Owen’s 18 points per game shooting 51 percent from the field (on 351 shots), 38 percent at the arc (168 attempts), and 83 percent at the foul line.
Owen had a two to one assist to turnover ratio and he spent time at both guard spots but his game has become more of a scoring guard as the 6-foot-2 Chose has hit with feet set, off a dribble or two, and his fall away off the dribble has become something of a trademark.
Chose is playing with the Minnesota Fury Zurn squad who is 10-3 after three weekends of play and things have gone quite well with just one loss per event.
“We have a lot of talent and I am having a ton of fun playing with this team,” Owen told NHR about the Fury Zurn squad. “I like the work ethic of each player on this team.
“It’s very important to be around others that are willing to put in the work to get better each day. Every tournament we have done well, but there are still areas we need to improve on and we are learning how to get better each weekend.”
As we said Owen has played both guard spots and is asked by his coaches to do so.
“I felt I have really improved my basketball IQ by letting the game come to me and making the right read,” Owen said. “I also feel like I have shown better playmaking ability in the sense of scoring the basketball.
“As for improvements to my game I still think there is room to continue to grow in my basketball IQ. But I know that there is always room to grow in that area of my game.”
Chose has a nice list of schools that is calling on him with interest at the division one level so far.
“UMass-Lowell, Central Michigan, Wofford, UNC-Greensboro, Lipscomb, Bucknell, Cornell, West Point, North Dakota, and Furman have been in contact,” Owen told NHR.
Out of that list Army (West Point) offered a spot on their team.
“It was the best feeling in the world,” Owen said of getting that offer. “It felt so good to see that my hard workout had finally paid off.”
With that weight off his shoulders now Chose has more goals ahead of him he wants to accomplish.
“I just want to continue to get better at my craft and prove to everyone that I am an elite level basketball player,” Chose said. “I want to continue to get better everyday and continue to earn scholarships.”
