A point guard that can shoot the 3, get to the basket and dish to his teammates, Klaus has already scored 1,057 career points after averaging nearly 20 points per game last season as a freshman.
A 6-foot guard, Klaus averaged 22.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 2.8 steals per game, while shooting 48 percent from the field. He made 42 3-pointers, shot 34 percent from long distance and made 80 percent of his free throws.
Klaus said several colleges have been in contact with him through his high school coach, Chris Miller and says the one he is most interested in is Missouri State.
He said this is the second summer he has competed for St. Louis Gateway Basketball Club. The team has already played tournaments in Little Rock, Dallas and Atlanta, with trips to Indianapolis, Chicago, South Carolina and Vegas still to come.
“I believe playing against some of the best competition in the nation is definitely making me a better ball player,” he said. “I feel like I have been holding my own against them.”
Klaus says he is working on his ball handling, 3 point shot, and mid-range jumper and is working with a trainer to improve his overall athleticism.
He says the biggest influence on his game has been his father.
“Basketball is something I love doing and he started working with me when I was very young,” Klaus said. “He has always put in the time with me and given me many opportunities to play and become better.”
