Creston got down big early but then Kylan Smallwood happened. The 6-foot-2 guard came in and made his impact felt immediately on both ends of the floor; swiping steals, slashing to the hoop and creating for teammates. After a sensational freshman season we thought Smallwood would be a great player, bur he exceeded our lofty expectations, finishing with at least 25 points and a handful of steals, assists and rebounds to boot.
MVP: 2019 Kylan Smallwood, 6’2 G, Creston
A do-it-all guard who looks the part, and though just a freshman he’s a fiery competitor and vocal leader for his squad. He could have a special career with the Panthers.

11:05 — Cornsharks 17U Select 76 vs Kingdom Hoops X 68
This Kingdom Hoops X squad is comprised from a stout group of central Iowa 2018s, and man can they play. Even playing up a division against what we thought was the most talented team in the field, X led wire-to-wire and got big bucket after big bucket to come away with the win. Last weekend they won the Cornshark Classic in Fort Dodge, and they could very well do the same this weekend.
MVP: 2018 Steve Borneman, 6’2 G , Dallas Center-Grimes
The wiry wing has a knack for getting to the hoop, and the aggressor was finishing well when he got there.

12:10 — Cornsharks Select 15U 76 vs Iowa Dynasty Black 29
This was a rout from the start, and though Dynasty played tough throughout it was the supremely talented ‘Sharks squad that was the main attraction. Greene County 2019 Trey Hinote is a superstar in the making. He was slicing and dicing as the best playmaker in the game, and was setting up teammates and hitting deep shots too. If this ‘Sharks squad can stay intact it will be one to watch over the next three summers.
MVP: 2019 Trey Hinote, 6′ PG, Greene County
He has a very high basketball IQ and a tremendous skill-set to pair it with. What more do you want out of a point guard?

1:15 — Benton 90 vs Southern Iowa Cornsharks 17U 66
Benton is one of those schools that does a real ice job of getting its team out out, intact, for some offseason run in tournaments. They looked in sync with each other today in their win over a pretty solid Southern Iowa Sharks squad. It was 2018 point guard Spencer Touro who was the best prospect on the floor, he was great as a sophomore for the Bobcats and could debut in the top-50 when the new 2018 rankings are released.
MVP: Spencer Touro, 5’10 PG, Benton
He emerged last season a starting guard with the very good 3A team, and should continue to blossom into a star over the next two seasons. A smooth and smart point guard, Touro shoots it very well and plays with great efficiency.

2:20 — Iowa Cornsharks 16U Select 70 vs Indianola 54
John Herrick played with the Cornsharks today and served as the team’s only big, dominating defensively and changing the complexion of the game with at least six blocks. The ‘Sharks led 63-33 midway through the second quarter in a completely dominating performance, before yielding a 21-7 run to the Indians – who played without returning leading scorer Evan Gauger — down the stretch.
MVP: John Herrick, 6’6 F, Boone
Normally he plays with Iowa Wolves, but today he was manning the post for the ‘Sharks. He played very well as the team’s primary big-man, and in addition to Hassan White-siding everything that the Indians put up, he was versatile offensively, scoring from all three levels.
