Joe Smoldt, 5’10 PG, Gladbrook-Reinbeck
For two straight years Smoldt has been stunningly good at the state tournament in Des Moines, on both occasions taking home 1A tournament MVP honors. But not to be dismissed is his fantastic regular season performance with the Rebels. He was nothing short of sensational last winter, scoring at a high clip (25.5 ppg), and shooting it very well (51%, 43%, 85%). The smooth floor general also dished out 4.9 assists and swiped 2.9 steals per game. He is currently without an offer, but has some Division I and Division II inquiries.
First Team
Jay Small, 6’1 G, Hinton — The multi-talented athlete led all 2017s in scoring, pouring in 25.7 points per game. He’s got an offer already from South Dakota, and the Omaha Elite product could be in for many more by summer’s end.
Joe Smoldt, 5’10 PG, Gladbrook-Reinbeck — He’s now a back-to-back 1A All-Tournament Captain at the state tournament, and he’s a big-time scorer with elite shooting ability.
Trent Hilbrands, 6’2 G, LeMars — The well-built guard put up massive numbers for the Bulldogs this season, going for 23.9 points (56 FG%), 4.5 assists, and 9.0 rebounds per game. Yowser.
Jal Bijiek, 6’7 F, Des Moines North — He’s got an offer from North Dakota already, and many more could pour in this summer. The athletic and rangy forward led the state in blocks, swatting 4.7 per game.
Quinton Curry, 6’6 F, Valley — Even with two star seniors on his team Curry was able to shine, scoring 14 points per game on an insane 65 percent shooting. The state champion is still without an offer, but expect him to receive a few this summer.
