- D1 Minnesota 17U. The Adidas program challenges themselves on a stage that will include the rest of the state giving them their best shot. If they win? They were supposed to. If they lose? Doesn’t look good. Whatever the case its nice to see they have the courage to challenge themselves against the locals who want to take a shot at them.
- Fury Zurn & Comets Lewis. This is a big stage for both of these teams as well and teams will be taking their shot at them. The outstate players love to go at the top outstate program (Comets) while the Fury has taken a step forward when it comes to the talent on their roster so can they prove they are elite this weekend?
- When you list off the top 2018 talents in the state of Minnesota the best players are either playing up a level, playing out of state this weekend, or not playing this weekend. So this is a chance for other talent in the 2018 class to step forward be noticed.
- So wins at the 16U level? The Comets Stumpf squad is the favorite while many are excited to see Select Altenhoften who put together a nice team. Heat Reese beat D1 Minnesota 16s (without Race Thompson) in a running time contest last weekend so they are good as well.
- Out of state teams will be around, who is the best? ECI has a really good 17U club that could make an Elite Eight or even Final Four run while the Wisconsin Playmakers are also in town and they are a bit of an unknown although Owen King of Caledonia is said expected to be on one of the teams.
- Who are the NSIC coaches going to watch the closest? Don’t just expect them to watch the best of the best, there are several teams throughout the 17U event that have scholarship level talent so coaches will be everywhere.
- Who grabs attention Saturday morning and afternoon? The top 17U teams don’t have play-in games and because of the ACT test they won’t play until late Saturday so Saturday morning is available for 16U teams and players to make a name for themselves and the same can be said for the 17U teams playing in the play-in games.
- Who are the top players there to watch close? The best 2019 in the state Matthew Hurt is there, the top 2017 pure point guard McKinley Wright will be there competing, Nathan Reuvers too who is the hottest name in recruiting here, and watch how Jordan Horn does with Fury, and how Simon Wright and the Wayzata players do with the Comets.
- AAU Bingo? Oh yeah. Wild uniforms, crazy shoe and sock combinations, loud parents, relaxed or cranky officials, fun officials, you name it. What will we see?
- Can’t limit this to ten. Lots of players to talk about as we continue to preview the event tomorrow.
