Each time we see the bouncy post he gets better, and he’s even starting to flash some perimeter skills. Still with no offers, it’s almost certainly just a matter of time before a low-major Division I or Division II school extends a scholarship.
Austin Roetman, 6’7 F, All Iowa Attack Red (Pocahontas Area)
After wavering between whether he wanted to play baseball or grassroots basketball Roetman decided on the latter, and it’s working out splendidly thus far. He’s been tremendous on several occasions when we’ve seen him this spring; knocking in the 3-ball consistently, and showing an increased tenacity inside the arc.
Abe Kinrade, 6’6 SF, Barnstormers (Maquoketa)
Our Tony Roe picked Abe Kinrade as his pick to blow-up this summer, and the rangy wing is well on his way to doing just that. He’s already picked up two Division I offers in the past three months – first North Dakota, then Army.

Ryan Van Wyk, 6’6 SF, Pella (Shoot it!)
Adept on the perimeter and in the post, the good-sized wing is stronger than he appears and athletic too. He’s got takeover ability and should have some offers by summer’s end.
Tajen Ross, 6’2 G, Kingdom Hoops Red (ADM)
Perhaps the biggest stock-riser in the past year, Ross continues to elevate his status with dominant offensive play; an explosive first step, and smooth stroke make him nearly unguardable at times. He’s in-line to have some D2 offers by summer’s end.
Charley Crowley, 6’7 PF, Kingdom Hoops Elite (Valley)
At times Crowley has looked like a superstar on a team chock-full of superstars. When he’s engaged and aggressive he can be dominant in the paint on both ends of the floor. And when he gets going he can be a complete game-changer.
Landon Torneten, 6’5 G/F, Showtime Hoopers (Council Bluffs Lincoln)
He’s a prime example of a guy who was previously unknown but now a potential top-50 guy in 2017. He transferred into Council Bluffs Lincoln from Underwood, and therefore had to sit out the first half of last season before returning to a senior-laden Lynx squad. He’s an extremely rangy and versatile wing who could be a D2 prospect.
Ben Juhl, 6′ G, Kingdom Hoops Elite (Des Moines Christian)
Like Tajen Ross, Juhl continues to exponentially improve his stock. He’s as efficient of a shooter as there is in the state and if left open is lethal, hence his nickname “lethal lefty.”
Ben Gesink, 6’2 PG, Western Christian, Hull
Not flashy, but incredibly effective as a point guard for 2A state champions Western Christian, Hull. He is a top-notch ball-handler and can be a dominant player when he needs to be. He’s OK with being a game-manager too. And plus-length makes him dangerous on both ends of the floor.
Bailey Basala, 6’5 SG, Iowa Barnstormers (North Scott)
Basala was initially in our 2017 top-5 when he made the move over the river from Moline, IL to North Scott. It looks like that was about right, as he was recently extended a Division I offer from North Dakota. And it sounds like he’s turning heads as the Barnstormers continue to roll in the adidas Gauntlet.
