Second-teamers could have easily been first-teamers, thirds on the second, etc., ultimately this was the list we came up with. Congratulations to all players who made our all-state teams in a terrific class that, fortunately, still has one more season left to play.
Junior of the Year
George Mawanda-Kalema, 6’2″ guard, EpiscopalGeorge Mawanda-Kalema, 6’2″ guard, Episcopal: George Mawanda-Kalema was extremely consistent throughout the course of the season for Episcopal. He scored at least 10 points in each game this season, finishing the season tied for the team lead with a scoring average of just over 18 points per game. During the biggest games of the year, in the IAC and VISAA Championships, the swingman turned in solid two-way performances while displaying a high skill level offensively. He hit the eventual game-winner in vs. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes to clinch the IAC title, and scored 26 points in the state semifinal to eliminate the Saints in yet another tournament. Look for a variety of schools to get involved with his recruitment as he looks to continue his development with DC Premier 17U on the Under Armour Circuit.
First Team
Jahlil Jenkins, 5’11 guard, VA Academy: Big players make big plays in big games, and that’s what Jahlil did. The dynamic guard scored and assisted his way to a state championship.

Johquin “Pinky” Wiley, 5’10” PG, LC Bird: The high IQ floor general helped the Skyhawks dictate pace with stellar play on both ends during their magnificent run.
Austin Katstra, 6’6″ forward, Albemarle: The Patriots’ all-time leading scorer turned in a memorable season, being named conference player of the year and first team All-State during a highly productive season which saw his team earn a trip to the state semifinals.
Alex Petrie, 6’2″ guard, St. Christopher’s: The highly skilled, exciting guard took Richmond by storm as he helped lead St. Chris to a blazing hot start, and carried that momentum with him throughout the season.
