McClain is PHF’s 10th-ranked 2016, and has received some very initial interest from one Division I school, and another Division II program.
“I have Central Florida and Lees-McRae (NC) so far. UCF sent me some letters, I played in a tournament before the season there, and a couple of their coaches said they liked me,” said McClain, who is ready to prove himself on the 15U circuit this offseason.
“I can say I want people to see my game more. I feel like I’m a top three point guard in the country. This will be my first time playing on a national schedule, in the past I just played in tournaments around the state.”
His style of play is defensive, and he considers himself a guy who can guard anybody on the court, in any situation.
“I’m best at making my teammates better and I’m a defensive guy, I can guard any position one through five. And I can score,” said McClain.
“I need to continue to work on my quickness and my speed. I’ve seen improvements in those areas since summer league last year to now.”
With his freshman season wrapping up recently, the talented point guard described what his role was with the Blue Darters.
“My role was defense, and creating for other guys,” said McClain. “I was a role player. I was a backup point guard to our senior starter. He had been starting since his sophomore season.”
That senior starter was Derick Miley, a guy who has helped mold the next generation point guard for Apopka, McClain.
“We have a good relationship, he was like a brother to me,” said McClain. “ And in practice we would always get after it, and he taught me a lot.”
McClain says he’ll split his time this summer with ET1T1 and Team MOAM, his personal goals are very specific.
“I want to get at least four offers this year in the EYBL and Peach Jam,” said McClain.
