There upsets, massive performances, teams who made statements and of course the half-court buzzer beater heard around the state. The stage has been set and it’s one that you don’t want to miss if you are a fan of basketball, high school sports, or just good ole fashion competition.
Class C
Game one of the day is Summerfield vs New Living Word and they have quite a number of opponents in common. Against those opponents, Summerfield is 8-3 and NLW is 9-2. This game is sure to provide some great entertainment and start the day off. NLW is looking for it’s 3rd straight title while Summerfield would have it’s first championship since 2000. Look for Rashaan Proctor (6’0 G, 2016) from NLW to try and put his stamp on the game. This is the 3 seed vs the 5 seed and it’s very possible we see another down to the wire match-up. These teams have played against each other three times and Summerfield has won 2 of the 3.
Class B
Much like game one, the Class B championship is two teams who have plenty of common opponents as well. The 3 seed and defending champions Anacoco are 14-2 against that competition while the 4 seed Zwolle is 16-4. In their lone match-up in early December, Anacoco won 63-45 at home. Both teams have 11 losses on the season but Zwolle has 4 more wins with 32. This would be back to back titles for Anacoco or Zwolle’s 15th overall and first since 2011. Last season’s LHSAA Top 28 MOP Will Reese (6’4 SF, 2016) of Anacoco is looking for a repeat not only of a title but the most outstanding player award.
Class 5A
Make no doubt about it, this was a match-up many were looking forward to. Despite the depth of 5A and plenty of other title contenders, these two in Scotlandville and Natchitoches Central have played in back to back title games and split them 1-1. There is a wealth of talent but most are looking forward to the Brandon Rachal (6’5 G, 2017, NCHS) vs Javonte Smart (6’4 PG, 2018, SLV) match-up. The only common opponent was Ouachita Parish where SLV went 1-0 and NCHS went 2-0 against. This game is at 8 PM and it’s one you absolutely do not want to miss.
