Logansport came in looking for a little payback after McCutcheon came in and beat them on their home floor earlier this year. At that point, they were undefeated and the loss sparked a 6-game losing streak. McCutcheon knew they were going to be tested and early on the struggled. They were down early but managed to finish out the first quarter up 16-15.
McCutcheon continued to pour it on in the second starting on a 6-0 and getting up 22-15 about halfway through the quarter. Sophomore Robert Phinisee started to press up on the perimeter and get some steals and some easy buckets. Jalen Adaway did his best to keep Logansport in the game but he was relegated to shooting threes. Matt Jennings struggled as McCutcheon made him the focus of their defensive attack. In the second half, the Mavericks blew the thing wide open and moved on to the semifinal game on Friday with a 71-48 win over the Berries.
Player of the Game:
Haden Deaton – 6’5 SF – Junior
Could easily put Phinisee here but factoring in that Deaton was ill earlier in the day and his effort level early on in the game, he’s a big reason why McCutcheon was able to get the win. He’s such and active guy and got some huge offensive rebounds early when Logansport was still in the game. He shot the ball well from behind the arc and gave his team such a big boost that the second half was really on cruise control.
