“He just keeps climbing that ladder,” New Albany head coach Jim Shannon said. “You know, he’ll do something crazy and you think its just another day for Romeo, but I think he went up another rung today. Think the competition brought it out of him.”
Southport attempted everything it could to limit the sophomore with a box-and-one, double teams and more and it wasn’t enough. Langford’s play simply was too much as he shot 8-for12 beyond the arc, hitting shots from NBA range. His play was enough to offset and hold back Southport as it attempted to make a run in the second half.
The Cardinals were able to get the game to within 12 points in the second half with strong play from Joey Brunk and Paul Scruggs. The Cardinals didn’t have any further answers to stop Langford, though, as he hit nearly everything or found his teammates when Southport helped on him defensively.
“Southport, they had two Div. I players and just made me step my game up a little bit more and come up with the W,” Langford said.
