Heading this group is the best player in the class, New Albany wing Romeo Langford. He’s got talent to go beyond the college game and is the far and away best player but even when you look at the guys behind him at his own position, there are some intriguing names. Guys like Walter Ellis, Austin Boucher, and Jimmy Beane fall into that group.
Walter, the son of NBA standout LaPhonso Ellis, has the bloodlines and the talent to be a productive player. He’s tall and skilled and could be close to taking a big step forward this summer. As for Boucher and Beane, these two are guys that have a lot of potential but if everything breaks right, they will probably be considered more of a point guard down the road. Boucher is a big time scorer and has some solid handles but will have to learn to involve his teammates and think more like a lead guard. He has all of the other tools already. Beane just needs to clean up his ball handling but vision, size, and athleticism are already there.
As we continue down the list, we find quite a bit of athleticism in this group. Some of that comes from dual-sport athletes like Damani McEntire and Bryce Jefferson. Crispus Attucks wing Jamal Harris has as much bounce as anyone in the Midwest. This group is also filled with guys you would call shooters. Trejean Didier is one of the better ones but you can also throw Trenton Miller, Colin York, and Khiree Williams in it as well.
Overall, there are a lot of tools but headed with athleticism and potential at the top. It could see some departures sooner rather than later with some improvements this summer but has quite a bit of depth at the fringy DI level. With that said, here is a look at the 2018 class of shooting guards in Indiana.
