When we look at individual positions, the point guard spot is a deep one. Led by Indianapolis Tindley guard Eric Hunter, the top end of the class has a handful of DI prospects. You can easily throw Robert Phinsee, Zion Young, Antwaan Cushingberry, and Robin Duncan in that group as well.
Of this group of point guards there are a few characteristics that stand out. First, there is a ton of size. Hunter rolls in at 6’2, Evansville’s Robin Duncan at 6’3 and growing. You have two Fort Wayne products, Arius Jones and Brandan Johnson who will be taller point guards as well. You also have a ton of speed. Antwaan Cushingberry and Mekhi Lairy are really quick with the ball in their hands and can make plays in the open floor.
Overall, there is your normal depth in this group with tons of possibilities for some high-end players, maybe more so than you have seen in a few years. Outside of that, I think there is quite a few playmakers on both sides of the ball and while I talked about height on the top end side, I’m not sure there is as much size for the lower levels. Still some time for them to grow a bit but no names that stick out early on.
With that said, here is a look at the full list of point guards in our updated rankings.
