Continue ReadingAs it goes with most classes, the shooting guards usually have decent depth and some of the best talent in the class but this is a little different. At the head of the class you have Southport’s Paul Scruggs, a high major prospect and the second overall player in the class. But, behind him is where you find some really intriguing names even though there isn’t as much depth at the top as there normally is.
The first of which is Crown Point’s Sasha Stefanovic. He’s grown so much in the past year and is one of our biggest movers this time around. He’s up to 6’4 now and still growing and has put himself in the second spot behind Scruggs. Butler commit and Cloverdale wing Cooper Neese comes in at number three. He’s about as Butler a kid as you will find and should be a solid replacement for Kellen Dunham.
Further down the list, you notice that there isn’t a ton of DI level players in this group but there are a ton of DII guys that could use a big summer to jump into that next level. Watch out for guys like Fort Wayne Carroll’s Jacob Redding, Brownsburg’s Landon Hall, and Merrillville’s Jonah Jackson. These are all guys that could be on the verge of big time jumps in the next few months.
Overall, you’ll find depth but it is with the NAIA and DIII level guys. Quite a few guys roll in the DII area but are fringy which means they are likely to move up or down in level more likely than not this summer. Decent size from this group but I also really like that athleticism too. Tons of that in this class of 2017 Shooting Guards.
