Elijah Weaver is certainly the latter. The Oldsmar Christian Eagles thrived with him handling the offense this winter.
“He had a really good year,” said OC Head Coach Jordan Fair. “(He) started PG for a top 25 in the country. He led us to the championship game.”
Weaver’s confidence on the ball is tremendous. He is able to fend off shorter, pesky defenders by using his off-arm and shoulder. While he will surely add more muscle in the coming years, Weaver already has impressive natural strength.
Elijah Weaver capably surveys the floor each time he crosses midcourt. He has remarkable touch on his lengthy passes, which allowed the elite wings of OCHS to fly up the floor in hopes of flushing the rock.
“He was mostly facilitating,” said Coach Fair.
Teammates of Weaver’s included Dontay Bassett (Florida), L.J. Figueroa, and Eric Hester, amongst other college-bound hoopers. Weaver did not have to score to be effective.
“He was facilitating, but also had multiple games of 20+ points.”
Even in those high-scoring games, Weaver was so efficient. He doesn’t waste movement or recklessly attack the paint. His game has purpose, his intent reveals an uncommon basketball maturity.
Tonight Weaver will be one of several OCHS Eagles attending University of Florida against Kentucky. Florida has offered Weaver.
Miami, USF, Louisville, and UCF have all offered already, still two years before he can sign.
“Maryland has inquired,” said Coach Fair. “Georgetown has inquired.”
The recruiting footing is solid and the basketball foundation has no cracks. Weaver and Oldsmar Christian are building something special.
