Bishop O’Connell’s starting shooting guard exhibits more than just size at the off guard spot, he’s a dead-eye three point shooter with a high motor who prides himself on relentlessly crashing the boards.
The Woodbridge, VA native has been playing basketball since he was 8. He started out in the Boys and Girls Club before he began showcasing his talents on the AAU circuit. Lewis is a confident player who clearly has a lot of long-term upside given his mix of athletic ability, skill and defensive potential.
His recruitment remains dormant at this point, with Davidson as the primary who is actively recruiting him. Given his ability to get up and down in conjunction with his ability to stretch the floor, Lewis is a good fit for a high pace style.
“I have a high motor, I’m a good shooter, I crash the glass and just play hard,” he explained. “I still want to work on my strength, and ball handling.”
Matt has hit 34 threes this season, and is regarded among the top 3 point threats in the WCAC. The Knights feature a strong and balanced scoring attack with 4 players averaging right around 10 points per game. He is third on the team behind emerging class national level recruit Nate Watson and Rice commit Ako Adams.
Matt Lewis has established himself as a primary scoring option on the perimeter for Knights HC Joe Wootten. On Saturday vs. St. John’s, Lewis hounded future Terp Anthony Cowan Jr. and helped force him into some uncharacteristic turnovers down the stretch which were key in securing their victory.
The VA Top 30 No. 6 Bishop O’Connell Knights are rolling at the right time, having won 7 of 8 games heading into their matchup with Gonzaga today. Lewis has been an integral part of this. He is a hard working student who owns a 3.4 GPA. Look for his recruitment to take shape quickly as a solid division 1 prospect come spring/summer.
