Player of the Week: Derek Van Ryswyk
Derek Van Ryswyk of Glenville-Emmons broke out in a big way last week. A season that had already been going well for the 6-foot-6 junior had an exclamation point as he logged a 42 and 18 game against Mabel-Canton.
That game along with another double-double earned him POTW honors, presented by Wisconsin Dells.
“The season started out a little slow, but towards the end we got on a roll, beating Lanesboro, Alden-Conger, and Mabel-Canton all in a row,” Van Ryswyk told NHR. “So going into playoffs, we know we have a good chance at making a run. We lost quite a few close games in the early season but towards the end we started coming out on top.”
When asked about his 42/18 game, Van Ryswyk was modest and said his team was “just clicking that night.” He plans on playing spring and summer ball for the SE MN Lightning club. Make sure to check tomorrow for the next round of POTW candidates, presented by our friends at Wisconsin Dells.
