Louisiana Player of the Week Results: 01/24 – 01/30
There must be something in the water, or blood, for this family. After his cousin won PotW last week, Damian Johnson (5’10 G, False River, 2018) wins in a landslide. 40+ point performances are becoming quite common for Johnson who is still only a sophomore. His 43 points over St. Edmunds clearly earned him Player of the Game in that game but helped get him nominated and lead to this week’s player of the week.
Other candidates included two other Sophomores in Javonte Smart (6’4 PG, Scotlandville, 2018) who had two triple doubles for the week in two district wins and Devion Dunbar (6’1 G, Sicily Island, 2018) who is one of the state’s top scorers and stat stuffers.
The two senior nominees continued their impressive seasons. Matthew Thomas (6’0 PG, Pontchartrain Christian Academy, 2016) is an LSUA signee who has been a force for PCA as a homeschool team while JaCoby Ross (6’0 G. Peabody, 2016) helps lead Peabody as a front-runner in 3A with big scoring performances.
