-Strengths-
Division-I Talent
There are nine forwards and centers in this class that we consider Division-I prospects and a tenth that already has a Division-I scholarship offer. DeAndre Ayton is clearly an elite talent while Nigel Shadd and Bilson Piebade are mid major prospects. While the rest are low major guys they are, in fact, D1 prospects.
Small College Prospects
There are numerous forwards that will be able to impact the small college levels. From positions 25-32 there are seven prospects that look to be immediate impact guys at the Division-II/NAIA D1 levels. In addition, Billy Jordan, ranked 33, is a post prospect with a ton of upside.
-Weaknesses-
Back to the Basket Scorers
Similar to the 2016 class, there aren’t many players that are very good scoring with the back to the basket. DeAndre Ayton, Jake Hess, Gabe McGlothan, Bilson Piebade, and Nigel Shadd are all guys that can catch and finish well while players like Nate Graville, Krill Panifilov, and Jared Rodriguez are face up fours. Very few, however, are guys you can give it to in the post and tell them to “get a bucket”. Buka Mbegbu, a Division-II/NAIA prospect, is the one unique player in this facet of the game.
