Mateo Rivera
6’0 – PG – 2017
Really like the improvement of Mateo at this point in his junior season. He’s always been just another guard on this North Central team, which is to be expected, but he’s really taken control of it and made it his. Mateo is a talented point guard prospect who does well handling the role of a true point guard. Handles it well, can beat pressure, and attack the rim. He’s always been good but you only got glimpses. Now, he’s a legit player.
Tyrie Johnson
6’2 – SG – 2016
Tyrie is going to end up being a steal for a team in college. Underrecruited to this point, Johnson could play at the DII level and be an impact guy. 6’2, long, and pretty athletic. Was huge late in the game creating havoc on Kyle Guy when North Central really needed a stop. Offensively, his jump shot has come along and it is a nice weapon that he now relies heavily upon.
Emmanuel Little
6’6 – SF – 2017
Little is one of my favorite players in the state right now and it has a lot to do with the fact that you don’t see many players that play the way he does. He’s 6’6 and very strong and very tough around the rim. Rebounds at a high level and you can’t beat him to a ball very often. He really has to improve his ball handling so he can add more offense to his game but he can score around the rim. Great threat down low. Made LC guards second guess some shots because of his shot blocking in transition.
Antonio Singleton
6’5 – SF – 2016
Good game from Singleton that makes him look very efficient. Antonio stayed within himself in this game and that was a problem he had at times this summer. When he lets the game come to him he can really leave an impact because he shoots it well from deep and can be a solid rebounder. He was solid tonight and was able to get great looks as Wilkes, Rivera drew away a lot of the defense. Athletic wing with size and a solid jumper.
Kris Wilkes
6’7 – SF – 2017
Probably one of the best games I’ve seen of Wilkes to this point. Take away the tech and the foul trouble and when he was on the floor he was the best player, even with Kyle Guy out there. Kris is a matchup problem and he was so aggressive from the start of the game that it really put LC in a bind because they lack size. Wilkes on the first play tried to dunk on a couple kids. He’s always been this skilled and loves to go at the rim even with his skinny frame but this was a whole new level of aggressiveness.
Lawrence Central:
Mehki Biffle
6’2 – SG – 2016
Biffle had a horrible first half going 0/6 to start the game with 2 points. However, in the second half he gave LC a spark they very much needed. He pushed too hard early on in the game and it really looked like he was forcing every shot. In the second half, he slowed down and took his time and was able to finish with 13 points. He hit a pair of deep shots and you could tell he was more relaxed. Good Mekhi has been present almost all season. In four games, this is the first time bad Mekhi has shown up and it only lasted a half. Not too bad of a year so far.
Kyle Guy
6’2 – PG – 2016
Great game from Guy. He’s been pretty much on fire in the four games I’ve seen of his to this point in the year and this one was the one where I felt like he is the frontrunner for Mr. Basketball. He’s shooting the ball so well from deep and no one can really slow him down. Tyrie did late in the game but he already had 27 points. He also didn’t show up until the 2:00 minute mark of the first quarter. He knows that in most games he has to score near 30 to have his team be in it and he can do that with relative efficiency. Wasn’t the case last season. He’s been really consistent and impressive.
Ben Resner
6’6 – PF – 2016
Playing at LC might be a good thing for Ben in the long run but it doesn’t allow him to shine very often because of the style and having Biffle/Guy. With that said, Resner made a couple huge plays late in the game with a big time and-one and then followed it up with a defensive rebound to keep the lead. He can do that but you only see a little bit here and there. This might make him battle tested, though, come college.
