Jalen Adaway
6’5 – SF – 2017
Jalen has shown big improvement in his jump shot over the last year. He went something like 5/11 from behind the arc and after making his first two he missed his next four. However, he was able to reel himself back in and knock down another three late in the game. That showed how far he has come because a lot of his shooting problems seem to be mental. He’s taken big steps forward and add that to his ridiculous athleticism and scoring on drives and off of rebounds and he’s a guy that is only scratching the surface.
Matt Jennings
6’0 – PG – 2017
Jennings started off the game hot from the field showing off what has made him an intriguing player but tapered off towards the end of the game. He’s grown a bit and looks 6’0 now with just a little more strength. He was really good early one trying to finish at the rim where he plays stronger than he looks. Matt can be creative in his scoring ability, whether it is at the rim or in the open floor where he can shoot from well beyond the three-point line and in the mid-range. He’s one of the tougher guys you will come around in the state.
Sam Skaggs
5’10 – PG – 2019
Skaggs got quite a bit of playing time in this game and even started at the point for Logansport to push Jennings off the ball a bit. He’s a solid ball handler but young guard with a small frame. Doesn’t look like he will have the same frame as his father or older brothers but might but more of a guard than a wing/forward. Showed some confidence and while a little hesitant to make plays at times, he should be fine in that regard with time.
Hunter DeHaven
6’5 – SF – 2017
Not the greatest game from Hunter but he made some big plays down in the paint of the defensive end. He’s got a little length and has filled out his 6’5 frame well in the last year. Offensively, he struggled to get a ton going but showed promise as a defensive guy on rebounds and some big blocks in transition and in the half court. His defensive value seems to be higher than I anticipated but have to see how he comes along offensively.
McCutcheon:
Robert Phinisee
5’11 – PG – 2018
Phinisee had one of the best games of his high school career in this one as he went for 30 points and carried his team through the first 3/4 of the game. He showed an improved scoring ability in the open floor and was great at changing directions and pace. He made life difficult for Logansport every time they missed a shot. Robert was great at countering and getting them 1v2 or 2v2. His jump shot looked solid and he was aggressive the entire game. Great complete game for the talented sophomore.
Haden Deaton
6’5 – SF – 2017
Deaton had a tough time in this one as Logansport had more than one guy to throw at him and playing in the halfcourt against them was tough to penetrate. He was able to score on toughness plays whether it was scrapping for loose ball rebounds or fighting through hits at the rim. He knocked down his first three of the game. Haden got blocked a few times by Adaway and that was an issue buy he’s a smart kid that should find ways to adjust to that kind of athleticism.
Darnell Butler
6’5 – SF – 2016
Butler, who had been quite in the first three quarters, really stepped up in the fourth. He’s got a lot of tools and the body to be really good but he hasn’t really put it all together yet. You saw in this game, late, what it could look like. Good jump shooter with tons of strength who is decent at cutting through the lane with some saavy and finishing well. Has to improve in his finishing strong but it’s not bad. Consistency is the biggest thing. Once he puts it all together, which will happen some day soon, he can be a really good basketball player.
