At 6-foot, Larkin has teamed with Northern Kentucky recruit Blake Spellman to form a strong 1-2 punch in the backcourt for the No. 2 ranked Lee’s Summit Tigers, now 17-0 this season.
Little said Larkin reminds him of former Lee’s Summit West standout Shaq Harrison, who is now starring at the University of Tulsa.
“He is a 5-foot-11 version of Shaq in that he can just do a little bit of everything,” Little said. “Not always the guy that kids all the credit, but is someone who makes us go.”
Larkin is averaging 13 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game.
“Larkin, he is kind of the straw that stirs the drink, he kind of makes us go,” Lee’s Summit head coach Blake Little said. “He plays the two, but he leads us in assists and rebounds. He can score, but he shoots at a very high percentage and usually guards the other teams best player.
“He just does a little bit of everything.”
“I try to get others involved, go hard all the time and I think I bring defense, rebounding and intensity,” Larkin said.
After a strong summer competing with Next Level, Larkin has started to draw the eye of college coaches this season. He doesn’t have any offers yet, but has fielded interest from Division II programs Northwest Missouri State University and Nebraska-Kearney.
Larkin said playing competitive summer basketball has helped his game grow, but he still has work to do on his game.
“I think the biggest things that helped me (during summer ball) were developing versatility and chemistry,” Larkin said. “I still need to be stronger with the ball, have great poise and pick and roll actions.”
