Session 1 Recap: Vantage Hoops High School Showcase
Princess Anne 59 – Prince George 58
Princess Anne and Prince George opened the showcase with a hard fought back and forth battle that ultimately came down to the last possession. The first half saw Prince George controlling the game on both ends of the floor with point guard Cory Hill leading the way with 18 points at the half. Their active zone forced the Cavs to take some tough shots and held them to 3-of-12 shooting from deep in the first half. Princess Anne responded in force coming out of the break and found success scoring in the paint thanks to Michael Barfield-Owens who contributed 21 second half points. Prince George continued to hold a slim lead until freshman Timothy Montgomery hit the go-ahead jumper with under a minute left to give Princess Anne a one-point lead. With 2.3 seconds to go, Prince George had a chance for the win on a sideline out of bounds play, but the backdoor pass was too high and the Cavaliers held on for the 59-58 win.

The second game of today’s showcase featured two teams ready to show they can compete. Landstown found early success behind their pressure defense and contributions from multiple players including 12 first half points from Daryus Evans and 8 from Michael Christmas. Meadowbrook was able to keep it close behind with strong guard play from James “Amp” Williams who was able to get to the rim at will, leading to layups and many trips to the line. Going into the break, Landstown held a slim 7 point lead as it looked as though Meadowbrook might make a push. The Eagles, however, responded by turning up the pressure even more and found success in their full court press. This led to 22 turnovers on the game for Meadowbrook. As the game continued, Landstown’s ability to share the scoring load and get stops proved to be too much as they pulled away and won handily by a score of 77-58.
