Louisiana Player of the Week Results: 01/03 – 01/09
Another week, another record set for votes in Louisiana for the Player of the Week. William Loyd (6’4 F, Madison Prep, 2016) received 49% of the votes which was well over 17,000 total votes. Last week there were 17,815 votes for all five contestants combined. His play for Madison Prep doesn’t always show up in the box scores but he was crucial in their two wins and even had a monster dunk which can be found at the bottom of the article.
He averaged 10 points and 8 rebounds in the two road wins over McKinley and Ellender. Loyd is one of the senior’s who contribute on a team loaded with young stars. His ability to play inside and out will be important for MPA throughout the season.
Chris Beckman Jr (6’1 SG, Episcopal, 2016) also broke the record with nearly 15,000 votes and 41% of the total votes. His 30 points in a road win over a tough Albany squad was followed up by a late game performance at home vs Port Barre where he scored 9 points in the last 4 minutes to lead them to another victory.
In 3rd place in voting was PJ Hardy (5’10 G, St. Louis, 2016) with over 3,000 votes which was good for 9%. Hardy had 26 points and 11 rebounds against LaGrange and hit a game winning three to give them the victory. In the 3 games after, he was in double digits as well.
Jared Butler (6’2 PG, Riverside, 2018) and Lamar Peters (6’0 PG, Landry-Walker, 2016) finished 4th and 5th respectively in the poll. Both are top 5 in the state in their class. Butler won the MVP of the Sugar Bowl Classic while Peters, a Miss St signee) had one of the more entertaining performances of the year with 10 made 3s against 3A power UHigh.
