Continue ReadingWe have released our rankings of the top player/prospects in each class. What is always a great debate, however, is ranking each player/prospect in the state regardless of class. Over the next week we will be breaking down our list of the top 20 overall player/prospects in the state of Arizona considering potential, projection, and production.
10. KJ Hymes 6’8″ PF 2018 St. Mary’s
Hymes improved a ton from the end of last season to the beginning of this one. Once a reserve for the Knights, the 6’8″ sophomore has been coming into his own. He’s much more comfortable on the floor and has proven he can make plays with the ball in his hands. While he is still sharpening his perimeter skills, he has shown good versatility on both ends of the floor. By all means, we project him to skyrocket on this list by season’s end.
9. Malik Ondigo 6’10” C 2016 Dysart
Ondigo is a player who had a very strong spring, taking a huge step in terms of production. The 6’10” senior found his niche as a high motor energy guy that blocks and alters shots and snatches rebounds in traffic. He learned to play aggressively at the rim and develop a 10-15 feet jumper which has served him well. Currently a mid major prospect, Malik certainly has the upside of a higher level performer.
8. Saben Lee 6’1″ PG 2017 Corona del Sol
Athletically, Saben is as gifted as any player in the state of Arizona. The 6’1″ junior is explosive, has great quickness, and possibly the highest vertical leap of any top player in the state. It wasn’t until this spring and summer, first with Amp’D Elite and then with Arizona Power Black, that he was able to gain experience, blossom, and let his talents show. Now the athletic point guard possesses a multitude of mid and high major offers. He’s another prospect that could skyrocket this list by the end of the year.
7. JJ Rhymes 6’3″ SG 2016 Shadow Mountain
A workaholic, at the high school level you won’t find many more productive than Rhymes. The 6’3″ off guard has a competitive nature and a chip on his shoulder that allows him to be successful against even the most talented players. JJ has always defended the top player on the opposing team, regardless if they were 5’10” or 6’11”. He always finds a way to be successful. Offensively he can beat you a multitude of ways. With his back to the basket, off the bounce, and even on the offensive glass when he can’t get his game going. When he’s shooting it consistently it’s hard to believe that there is a better performer in the AIA. He is a mid major prospect.
6. Cam Satterwhite 6’4″ SG 2016 Gilbert Christian
Satterwhite made a huge transition from 2014 to 2015 and really began to develop from prospect to player. While he still has tremendous upside, he was able to put his tools to work and become one of, if not the most explosive guard in the state. The 6’4″ combo guard showed that he has a lot of weapons on the defensive end. In transition he scores as well as anyone in the state and, towards the summer, he began to develop some consistency within him jumpshot. Unfortunately the Gilbert Christian standout tore his ACL in July but…good news for Loyola-Chicago: they got an early pledge which is likely to be the steal recruit of the Missouri Valley Conference.
