Chris King
6’4 – SF – 2016
King has really started maturing as a player. He’s much more under control with his emotions and his skill. The 6’4 wing player has always been a guy that has talent but maybe unpolished and had to grow up. He showed a bunch of improvement in this one. He was under control but still aggressive, providing support on the defensive end. He showed off a nice floater in the lane and a stepback jumper on the elbow. If he can shoot like this and play with the same demeanor, this will be a pleasant surprise this season. He was the best player in the overtime period scoring 9 points and coming up with a few big steals to seal it. – 21 points, 7 rebounds
C.J. Walker
6’0 – PG – 2016
Walker is having a great season to this point and this game is another example. He didn’t get as many touches or shots as he probably would have wanted but he doesn’t have to be the guy all the time for Tech to win this year. His jump shot is still crisp and he can create space very well anywhere on the court. C.J. is definitely in the running for Mr. Basketball and this 32 point performance helps. – 32 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists
Southport:
Paul Scruggs
6’2 – SG – 2017
There was a point in this game where Southport was down 17-4 but Scruggs put the team on his back and carried them back before the half. His three-point shot was solid and he hit enough in the first half to rally back. He’s really the only big scoring threat for Southport now and a lot of pressure has been put on his back but he’s done well not only scoring but helping involve his teammates. He had 4 assists and 10 big boards in this one. – 33 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists
Harrold Bennett
5’9 – PG – 2019
Bennet has impressed since joining the starting lineup. The freshman is very adept at running the point and he gets help from Scruggs on that too. He’s quick and really talented finding ways to score around longer, taller defenders around the rim. Harrold put up solid points and was able to be a nice secondary scorer in a game where Brunk was out with an injury. He’s got some good poise for a freshman and handles pressure really well. – 18 points
Jamie Burnett
5’10 – PG – 2017
Burnett has had his moments this year in the few games I have watched but maybe the biggest was his back-to-back steals before halftime to put Southport within one at the break. He’s a nice guard option that made some big shots tonight when Southport was down. He can be a point guard option and will have to transition there a bit over the next year as he lacks height but at Southport that isn’t what he needs to be. – 12 points
Eli Walton
6’5 – SF – 2016
Walton is really starting to make things change in his development. The 6’5 wing has been shooting the ball really well lately which is an upgrade over not really being a shooter at all. He tends to play more in transition when looking to score. Walton hit a nice three pointer in the corner and an elbow jumper. If he can add some sort of consistent jumper, his stock will shoot up a ton. He’s not had a ton of offensive value but that might be changing.- 8 points, 6 rebounds
