A rangy, and versatile wing, Hawkins is committed to Division II program Wayne State, and they got themselves a good one. The 6-foot-7 small forward was everywhere Friday night in a win over Council Bluffs St. Albert, going for 18 points, 22 rebounds, 7 steals, and 4 blocks. The 22 rebounds are the most by any player in a game so far this season.
2017, Connor Kasperbauer, Ankeny Centennial
In the first game of his junior season the rising star connected on all six of his 3-point attempts en route to 22 points in a 72-41 win over Des Moines East. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard also contributed with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. He was two for three from deep his second game of the season, so he’s now 8-9 from beyond the arc this season.
2017, Daniel Brennan, Kee, Lansing
The junior burst onto the scene with his 41 point performance last Tuesday in a win over Central Elkader. He connected on 19-24 free throws to help him score the highest single-game total of the week in the state. And he was still able to chip in with 3 assists, 4 steals, and a block to boot.
2016, Spencer Brown, Lenox
He’s back after missing most of last season with a leg injury, and he wasted no time making his presence felt. Brown started his season with a triple-double in a win over Orient-Macksburg last Monday night; 18 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 steals. The 6-foot-9 center is split right now between on whether he wants to pursue football or basketball in college.
2017, Jal Bijiek, Des Moines North
The budding star pieced together a brilliant triple-double in a 59-44 win over Indianola Saturday night going for 17 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks. He holds a Division I offer from North Dakota right now, more could be on the way sooner rather than later.
