Settled in at the Augsburg Holiday Classic, and the first game of Tuesday’s action is Eastview/Henry Sibley. Beginning almost right away, Eastview showed no signs of lag after yesterday’s loss and took a commanding lead. The ball movement — especially between Sean Ryan, Martin Mitchell and Jameson Bryan — was crisp and clean, leading to plenty of open looks both in the open floor and in a halfcourt set. The first half ended with Eastview holding a 48-30 lead; Sean Ryan led all scorers with 13 at the break.
Second half was more of the same, and Eastview flirted with a 30-point lead several times before hitting the 80-50 mark. It’s worth noting that Sibley’s best player, Isaiah Robinson, was sitting with a sprained ankle. The final was 86-60, with Sean Ryan totaling an impressive 29 points.
Player Notes
Zach Edwards, Sibley — 6-foot senior who could be a nice sleeper D3 pickup. Solid player with good IQ, catch-and-shoot ability and defensive awareness. Added 10 for Sibley.
Jameson Bryan, Eastview — Junior point who pushes the pace with determination and is a really energetic piece for Eastview. Leapt up for a rebound and grabbed it at the high point, ripping it back down safely. Made some nice takes around the rim, including a quick catch-and-reversal that was smooth. He’ll be a high-D3 caliber prospect next year at the bare minimum. Scored 9 points today.
Roy Mack, Sibley — 6-foot-6 senior with legitimate size, just needs work on his skills and mobility. MCAC jucos should take a hard look.
Sean Ryan, Eastview — Part of a Eastview guard core that includes Bryan and Martin Mitchell. This group works well together and has some really nice moments of ball movement. Ryan is smart, solid, and reliable.
Martin Mitchell, Eastview — Mitchell is rock-solid with ball security and also brings some great decision making. He plays today on his future collegiate floor, as he’s an Augsburg commit. 15 pts.
Louie Garibay, Henry Sibley — Senior guard for Sibley who, along with teammate Rieshaun Satar, never quit in the backcourt. Miscues happened, but they kept the effort high and totaled 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Connor Stevens, Eastview — Smaller but gritty senior guard who has a great-looking deep ball. Hit several in this one to total 10.
Tate Machacek, Eastview — Is he the younger brother of former Lightning big man Jordan Machacek, now of UW-La Crosse? Tate is an 8th grader who suited up for varsity and got garbage minutes; certainly one to watch for the future. One of only two players younger than juniors on the varsity roster.
