Cox led by 17 at half but the fun was just beginning. Tara used quick runs to slowly chip away at the lead and found themselves within striking distance late. Cox's struggles from the free throw line (16/35) opened the door numerous times but they were able to hang on to a 59-53 victory. ULL signee Roydell Brown and sophomore Terrance Joseph had 18 a piece to lead the way while Tara had 3 in double digits including their floor general J Bell.
The next match-up was quite the opposite as Destrehan only led Vandebilt Catholic by 4 heading into halftime (32-28) before using a double digit run to start the 3rd to take control. The final score ended up 68-49 in favor of Destrehan. Their athleticism and size became too much. Junior guard David Green ended up with 24 points after a slow start. Seniors Palmer Hill and Ross Reaves had 17 and 15 respectively to lead Vandebilt Catholic.
The third game saw Parkview sans Ryland Vial (injured) take on an athletic H.L. Bourgeios squad led by 2017 G Chance Gasery. The game was back and forth for four quarters and there was never a double digit lead. There were however double digit lead changes and runs throughout the game. Parkview led at half 24-22 and after the 3rd 43-39 but couldn't hold on as Bourgeois used pressure in the 4th to come away with the 63-59 victory led by 17 from Gasery. Junior PG Tyree Lomax finished with 13 for Parkview.
The final game saw the hosts Woodlawn take on Lee High who is back after a few years away. Woodlawn proved way too much from the jump and ran away with a 52-33 victory. They are a very tough team with length. Play continues tomorrow and the times can be found below.
